While I was out visiting family with my children, my mom had made a reservation at the Parkway Grille for us to have a nice NYE dinner as her treat. We live hours away on the coast of Virginia, but are all from Carroll County and know the area. Iâd heard of this restaurant but had never been, so this was my first time as well as my kids. We had a reservation and were immediately seated. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. I was surprised that it was pretty empty while we were there, seeing as it was the biggest night of the New Year, but it was very clean, well lit, and gave you that rural farm to table vibe. Everything was going well, we ordered our drinks, those came out and we ordered our food. When the food came out it was all presentable and appeared of high quality. That first bite of ahi tuna, however, was not as I was expecting. There was a thick layer of seasoning on top that was nearly pure salt and made my mouth pucker. My sister tried it and had the same reaction that I did, and suggested I say something. I do not send food back, ever. In our society, customers are fearful of being labeled as a âKarenâ and having our food tampered with especially. My mom and sister let the waitress know that the fish was extremely salty, and we left it at that. We made every effort to just enjoy the meal and time with family since it was NYE, we rarely see one another- and with two young kids present, it was not worth making a huge fuss. What we didnât bring up was the pulled pork my daughter ordered was practically inedible, it was excessively salty as well and she did add BBQ and slaw to it and tried her best to eat it. She couldnât stomach it, so I had her just finish the macaroni and cheese since that wasnât seasoned at all. I scraped all of the seasoning off of my ahi tuna and washed it down with my drink, along with the dry yellow rice and poorly steamed and over sautĂ©ed asparagus. Yes, I finished my plate because it was my motherâs treat and again, I do not send food back. My sister had the salmon/pasta and said it lacked any flavor or seasonings, so I offered the seasonings I scraped off of my tuna to her. My mother had the saddest looking ribeye Iâve ever seen, along with some seafood, and she couldnât barely finish the ribeye as she said it was terrible. The only one at the table to finish his plate and enjoyed it was my son, simply due to the fact he ordered grilled cheese off the kids menu, with sweet potato fries. As we ate, the waitress was very attentive, refilling drinks and checking on us, and she did let us know she passed along our concerns about the food being too salty. At that point I was expecting the chef or manager to come speak with us before we left, so I was preparing in my head not to have a scene in front of the kids or be a âKarenâ, just keep it light and see if they offer anything to remedy. We ordered dessert and all of the desserts were amazing! They do have a very talented pastry chef and I commend them on a delightful pecan pie, as thatâs a hard one to pull off for sure, but it was perfect. We finish dessert and Iâm still waiting for the dreaded moment of confrontation with the manager or chef over the complaint, but we get the check and nobody ever came out. My thought was that perhaps they went ahead and adjusted the bill to make amends, so I asked my mom if they did since she was paying, as it was her treat. She said no, they hadnât adjusted it. As you may expect, my mother wrote her own review to follow up, explaining that sheâs been to this establishment before for lunch and loved it, but there were issues with the dinner. We had already discussed it amongst ourselves that their lunch chef is amazing and itâs the dinner chef whoâs not great, wasnât tasting anything on the menu to ensure it was seasoned correctly. She wrote in her review that nobody came out and talked to us after a complaint was made, that was the entire point. The owner replied to my mother in rude and sarcastic fashion instead of offering remedy. Their customer service ensures we wonât be...
Read moreLet me start by saying the food and service were excellent! But, the evening had a rocky start. I made reservations in mid January for Valentine's Day night. I'm a single mom and wanted to take my son out for a special evening. He is 5, so I understand people might assume the worst. I called that afternoon to check on my reservation and they couldn't find it. They called me back and said I had a reservation for 6:30 pm at a high top table. At 6:10 I got a call asking if I was going to make it for my 6:00 reservation. I was in the parking lot, so we made our way inside. When I gave my name, the hostess went back to the podium and had a conversation with several waitresses. After a short wait we were seated at a table for 6. When I asked the reason they said the smaller tables were or couples because it was Valentine's Day. I mentioned that that was why I made reservations in advance. We were not moved to a better table. Meanwhile they seated a pregnant woman in her 3rd trimester at the high top table. Obviously none of these girls have ever been pregnant. You really don't want to climb up to get into your seat at that stage of the game. But, we were there and seated, so I decided to let it go. The waitress we had was wonderful. The food was excellent and my son got several compliments from other guests on his gentlemanly behavior. We even purcased a signed giclee canvas (local artist StarRoot) before leaving for the evening. We had the fried green tomatoes, he had chicken tenders and the fruit bowl (it was beautiful and very fresh) and I had the crab cake and cocoa rubbed steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. A little grace could have been extended to my son at the start, but hopefully this was a...
Read moreI searched on Google Maps for âburger near Floyd, VAâ and the Parkway Grille rated high. Dropped by without reservation and found the lunch crowd enjoying themselves.
The hostess and waitstaff service was excellent (thanks Cali!) and she presented the daily specials which the variety was wonderfully described.
A burger was my intended focus today, so I ordered the Bacon and Cheddar burger with the bacon on the side. Menu states that burger orders come with house-made chip & pickle, but I upgraded to fries, which were indeed excellent; flavorfully crispy on the outside and tender inside.
One of the other burger menu options mentions a âParkway Sauceâ. Definitely recommend a try as it has enough kick to make it very interesting and delicious on fries and the burger (especially in combo with catsup). Cali mentioned the sauce is made in-house.
Ambiance was excellent with two TVâs quietly airing live golf and the crowd was lively and enjoying themselves. Seating provides a bar, bar-height tables for two in the dining area, plus plenty of tables for four or even a larger party.
Indeed an excellent meal in a beautiful small Blue Ridge Parkway town. I will be returning on my next visit to Floyd, sampling a different menu...
