Okay. I need to know why this place is not being talked about more because this was FUEGO! Took a tip from my buddy Joey and met up with him for lunch (he’s also the next big thing in country music, don’t sleep on this guy!) at Family Chicken and Waffle/seafood and Soulfood in Easton, PA today.
Joey grabbed the whiting soul food platter and I got the fried chicken/fried shrimp soul food platter (couldn’t make up my mind and the gentleman behind the counter said get both…so I did). Okay…let me break this down just a little bit.
These shrimp are a great size, they’re hand dredged, seasoned very well, and most importantly…they were not overcooked. I hate when I get a shrimp that’s rolled over on itself and half dried out. The texture of these were nearly perfect and the flavor was great. It didn’t need the hot sauce, but you know I added a little anyway
The collards have a great flavor to them. I don’t like when they taste too strongly of vinegar or too strongly of pork. These had a great balance, they weren’t cooked til absolute mush, and there was a lot of them.
This baked Mac and cheese was excellent. Plenty of cheese, seasoned up nicely, baked to perfection with that nice crust of cheese on one side…man that was good.
The cornbread was glazed over and it was sweet but also had the savory from the corn. Wasn’t too dry (I find most cornbread to be dry) and it kept me wanting more.
These yams were as Joey put it “like a dessert for the platter”. These were sweet as sweet could be. If you don’t like that, you won’t like these. The yams with a little mac and a little greens all together though was like a dang symphony of tasting and triumph in my mouth though, I’ll tell you that.
And of course the final piece, that fried chicken. This had 2 wings and a thigh (or a small breast, I was so full I didn’t even get to that part yet) and these wings were dynamite. Even better with some Franks (I don’t normally put that shhhh on everything but that’s what they had) but it didn’t need a sauce at all. I haven’t had fried chicken this good in a long long time.
Didn’t Suck isn’t a good enough phrase for this spot. If you don’t go here, your stomach should take you to court...
Read moreCHICKEN & WAFFLES $ Seafood!: The absolute BEST! This is a JEWEL of a neighborhood restaurant! I have been coming to Family Chicken & Waffles for months & have eaten many of the dishes at this small family owned restaurant. It has become one of my few goto restaurants here in the Lehigh Valley (the LV).
The chicken (wings, legs & thighs) are the BIGGEST chicken pieces that I have ever seen, much less eaten. The taste is superb - crispy skin outside, yet juicy & tender inside. The food is served HOT and FRESH. So you know that it hasn’t been sitting around under heat lamps. And don’t get me started on their fried shrimp! It’s outstanding. Also, The service from all staff is given with a smile. The restaurant itself is very clean with the tables, table mats and sturdy chairs being spotlessly maintained. There are tables available for sit-down dining or waiting so that you can get your food to-go.
Oh. I forgot to mention their outstanding waffles created with different flavors no less. There is no other restaurant like this one. It fills a great void in the culinary tapestry that exists in the Lehigh Valley.
The restaurant is located in an out of the way plaza in Forks on Sullivan Trail. The food is simply delicious. Finally, whatever you order, you will not be...
Read moreIt’s crazy how I would’ve given this place five stars just for the food alone but the customer service is ridiculous. I was there last summer with my family and we all ordered separately and I forgot to add something to my order. I then asked my cousin to order it for me and after he did he went to the bathroom. We were all out sitting and eating the food that came and when a young girl came out and called my cousins name I said I’ll take it cause I knew it was mine. Then the guy his usually at the counter taking orders stormed outside and accused me of stealing food like REALLY after I just dropped all this money I need to steal. I then went back inside and told him about himself and his wife came from the back asking if it were a problem. Yes it’s a problem when you accuse your customers of stealing. We could’ve laughed it out as a misunderstanding if he would have just asked. When I tried to explain he responded yeah you know it wasn’t yours. It only took my cousin who ordered it to come in for him to believe it. I guess cause I have dark skin I...
