What a shame! Spaghetti at an Italian restaurant, absolute Mush! My kids favorite and it was inedible. I asked an employee, who I believe was a Manager of some sort, not our server, for some extra sauce and some grated Parmesan cheese. I informed him the pasta was lacking flavor and that is was over cooked. He returned several minutes later and stated “ hope this doctors it up a little “ then hurried away. As you may have guessed, it did not rectify the problem! Additionally the sauce was cold and the grated cheese was served in a compressed ball. My lasagna was a compact brick of mildly seasoned ground meat, with a layer or two of pasta, and a prudent topping cheese. The Side of asparagus was changed, without notice to bland undercooked green beans. My wife had the Braciola, or at least that is what she ordered. The delicate flavors of the components of the dish were overpowered by the heavy tomato sauce it was floating in. Again accompanied by the same undercooked green beans. We ordered the mussels to start. by far the saving grace of the meal, and the only food my child ate, However the 3 small slices of complimentary bread were very stale and extremely bitter. The food did arrive fast, too fast, leading us to believe that the portions had been par cooked and moderately warmed prior to serving. Once the food was on the table our server disappeared with out checking on us, and did not return until we were well into our lackluster meal. We used to enjoy dining here, but it will be some time before we return. We are not experts, but my wife and I have both worked in the food service industry. It seems to us as though there is a heavy focus on turning tables rather than creating an enjoyable dining experience. I hope this review finds its way to the owners and management. Please know our review has been posted with sadness and disappointment, not anger and frustration. Domenic’s used to be one of the shining stars of the Fort Collins restaurant community. Sadly their...
Read moreI met a couple of friends for lunch on Friday at Dominic's for the first time. Our wait person, Andrea, was neither effusive or outgoing, but she was efficient, which counts for something. They are open11:30 am to 10 pm Monday through Saturday and 4 pm to 10pm Sunday. We arrived on Friday around noon. This is a long, narrow, high-roofed building. The roof is tinned, painted various dark colors with sound absorbing triangular tiles here and there. The tiles are needed because the sound can be LOUD! They DO serve lunch, but they special more in dinner, I'd say. That and booze, as is the usual, because, well, that's where the money is. You can tell they are proud of their food because of the pricing. If this restaurant was set in any town that was not thought of as "upscale" they would not survive. I would say they have a regular clientele, judging from the joie de vivre evident from the constant and hearty shouts and laughter from around the room. Andrea took our order: A bowl of chili for me. Spaghetti and meatballs for my friend Carl, and Shrimp Scampi for Tim. My chili, at $7, was not enough for lunch, so I had a second "cup" for $5. It came with four thinly sliced pieces of bread with the requisite oil for dipping. As I preferred simply bread and butter, Andrea readily agreed to bring that for me. The chili was "ok". With little bits of chopped onion on top and a sprinkling of cheese and a bit of spice, it hit the spot. I would have preferred a chunkier chili, but, as I said, it was "OK". Carl said his spaghetti was "delicious", as was Tim's Shrimp Scampi. I really have mixed feelings about Dominic's. The food was pretty much top-notch, but it was such an effort to cram in for lunch, with hardly any opportunity to talk, I can safely say that I won't be back. In nicer times, when the outside patio is open, it might be more laid back, but there seems to be much experimentation with food and too much "get 'em in, get 'em...
Read moreFirst time here, last time. Food was disappointing. Especially for the price. Also, did not appreciate the 2% add-on for kitchen staff. My wife rarely comments about her food but during the drive home last night she told me that her Caesar salad was served warm. Everyone knows that Caesar salad is typically served cold and crispy on a chilled plate. The crab cakes appetizer (2 for $14) were so way off. Mostly breadcrumbs. Did not hold together in the plate as soon as they were touched with a fork. Even our friends commented and they had a different app but noticed ours. Whatever crab was there was not detectable. The flavor was overwhelmed by the seasoning inside the crab ball (pic atttached) as well as the overpowering sauce served under the crab balls. Salad is not included with your entree. Side salads are priced at $8. My Mediterranean side salad was quite good and the portion was large. My Beef Braciole entree was overwhelmed with an overpowering non-traditional tomato based sauce. The green beans that accompanied the Braciole were terribly salty, and I like salt, but these were just way over the top. I had no alcohol. My wife had two glasses of Sauvignon Blanc ($12 each). No dessert. So the crab cake app, her Mussels and Caesar side without added protein, my Braciole dish, two soft drinks (Arnold Palmer - no free refills - they charge for each) - $108 before tip and kitchen gratuity. This said, glad we had reservations. We arrived at 6:00 and it was packed. Maybe my expectations...
