Star of India is no star anymore. Their quality has decreased. The food dishes are smaller, unless it is buffet. In the buffet the food lack most of the luxurious Indian spice which is what Indian food is all about especially at their prices. Many of the menu items have decreases especially the creamy ones with cashew sauces. What makes their Indian food subpar is their lack of significant s pieces such as cardamon, cloves, cumin. One of the most significant ingredients in Indian food- ghee, they do not use. They use butter. It only shows the lack of care for the Indian tradition. Ghee is very easy for them to make and it provides a unique delicate flavor that butter can’t. As for their service along with the food, I ordered crispy naan. Which is accomplished through attention, it must be turned often to achieve without being burned. They gave me burned naan. I told them it was burned and they said they could replace it. They replaced it with soft buttered naan. They said they could give with ghee but didn’t. When I asked why I was charged for their burned product they said that they gave another replacement but didn’t say it was free. But may I comment that they also didn’t say it was to be charge. Typically, restaurants will replace undesirable food for free. It is not only a courtesy but a quality issue. I’m only left with the foolish argument over $2.99 for naan in which they argued about and didn’t refund and a emptiness for the Star of India before all the cheap changes destroyed it as my restaurant of few choices. If you are Indian or a lover of “ real” Indian food, this is not the...
Read moreVisiting from Wyoming where we have nothing like this in Cheyenne. I wish we did because the buffet is nothing short of amazing if you like Indian style dishes. Where to begin?
First, the restaurant seems clean including the toilet facilities. The greasy smell that accompanies some buffets was not present here and the ambience is good. The waitstaff were friendly and even had suggestions when it came to needing two items that were non-dairy (mango lassi) and gluten free (naan bread).
Second, the buffet was clean and offered several items. While not as large as a place like Golden Corral, each dish is made with fresh ingredients and very tasty. There are chutneys and spices that you can add to add a little more zing if you want to your plate.
From the saag (spinach based creamy dish) to the mango pudding and the kheer dessert (very cool and refreshing dish kind of like rice pudding) everything was tasty. I am not very big on tomato based dishes, but the ones here are creamy and not highly acidic.
However, the highlight of the buffet has to be the tandoori chicken. I regret that I could only eat one piece because it is probably the best tasting chicken dish I have ever had.
The price is reasonable even if ordering off the menu instead of the buffet. Several different lassi drinks and chai teas on offer as well as different types of naan bread.

Read moreNormally i would give this restaurant 5 stars because the food is amazing, but during the pandemic (covid-19) their staff on the takeout buffet (7/31/2020 @ 11:15am) have garnered this awful experience.
For one, they serve a soup like dish, daal, that they want to put in a cardboard container. I asked if they had anything for soup that they could give because we’ll, it’s to go, and it’s liquid, and i truly do not want my car messed up.
She seemed flustered and instead of just asking or having someone speak to me she decided to reprimand me and let me know to not make this a habit before grabbing a proper to go container for liquids. Even for the sauces, there are no to go cups. She wanted to poor the tamarind sauce in the bottom of the container.
I would say wait until their restaurant is better equipped to handle a buffet situation because right now they are not.
I would suggest ordering off the main menu because there is a possibility it will be better put together for transportation.
You’re given a more solid container for cold items (as far as seal), and the naan you’d be served in the restaurant (and i put desert in my small container), but for $15.05 after tax I’d say steer clear of the buffet for now. However, when they are able to open, this is a much much better experience, just not during...
