I was looking forward to coming today because I’ve had this place in mind for months, but couldn’t make it before because of my schedule. Unfortunately, it will be my first and last time here after the experience I had today.

By the way, you can only take the orders to go in case other reviews didn’t mention that.

So, I walk in, was the only customer there, and ended up waiting longer than I expected to. I ordered the Crispy Cauli Wings with BBQ Sauce, and Collard Greens and Mac for the sides. When I got my food, I noticed there were BBQ Mushrooms instead of the Cauli Wings. When I brought that to the young girl’s attention that was at the front when I placed the order, she asked the young boy right in front of me and he tells me “you didn’t order that”. Then, when my order got taken to the back to be corrected I heard someone say out loud “she gone have to wait”. There were other things said by the young girl but she lowered her voice so I couldn’t really hear whatever else was said. I didn’t acknowledge having heard that comment I just simply asked when the young girl came back to the front if the rest of the food I ordered would be kept warm while I waited for the Cauli Wings because I was planning on eating the food not long after I got it. I also asked for extra napkins and an extra sauce (which I didn’t mind paying for) and it seemed like there was a problem with me making these requests.

Overall, the food was okay. I liked the Cauli Wings the most. The Sweet Potato Pie was good, but the filling was a little mushier than what I’m used to. The Mac was okay; good flavor, I’m just not a fan of liquidy Mac. The Collard Greens I didn’t like much because it lacked flavor. Lastly, I wouldn’t recommend the corn bread either because it was...

Last year, I spotted the co-owner of Blue Tree Cafe Vegan Soul Food reviewing @the jerk stopfl and immediately added it to my never-ending "must-try" list. Well, I finally made it!

Tucked away in Fort Lauderdale’s Historic Sistrunk District, this cozy gem is serving up vegan soul food. Think Southern comfort classics, but fully plant-based such as black eyed peas, mac n' cheese, collard greens, sweet potato pie plus tasty twists like crabless balls, rasta pasta, chili, and curry chickpeas. YES, PLEASE.

The vibe? Colorful, fun, and full of good energy. The customer service was on point...super welcoming and warm. And bonus: prices were totally reasonable and fyi its takeout only, no cash accepted and opened three days a week. Whether you’re vegan or just here for the flavor (hi, me), give it a try. Soul food that feeds your heart and your health? Count me in.

Main Blue Soul Bowl: Choice of Cali Curry Chickpeas, BBQ/Spicy BBQ Mushrooms, or Crispy Cauli Wings, two sides and corn bread.

FoodieChews: I chose the Spicy BBQ mushrooms, mac n cheese and collard greens. The spicy BBQ mushrooms were delicious! Smokey, spicy, semi sweet sauce sliced mushrooms. The collard greens were tender but bland. Where's the flavor? The creamy mac n cheese sauce had a nice velvety texture yet bland as well. The corn bread was average. This was a souless bowl for me. This was not cooked with love. The mushrooms were the star of the show.

Dessert Sweet Potato Pie

FoodieChews: Very good. You could taste the yummy spices....nice texture....cute mini size for...

Try something different for lunch today in Downtown Fort Lauderdale area, try Blue Tree Cafe Vegan Soul Food by Nika King. This little cafe serves up all the soul, as Nika’s mom, Chef Sharon cooks up all of your soul food favorites, for a very reasonable price, plus special for this month, they have a home made burger for 954 Burger Month. The Black Bean Soul Burger is made with black beans, brown rice, toasted walnuts and a variety of spices and herbs. It’s served on a vegan brioche bun smered with a chipotle compound butter and house dressing, served here with hand cut sweet potato fries. The menu also has a lot of great options too, the crab balls are my favorite! Hours are limited as they are only open Tuesday - Thursday, 11-6 and are cashless business. They are located at 612 NW 9th Ave Ste A in Ft.Lauderdale, close to downtown, but they have do have a private free parking lot. Highly suggest checking them out this week, and trying the burger before the end...
