I do not recommend this place. I had been a couple times prior to the incident that recently occurred and was okay with the service. The manager or whatever this lady is, it's a younger lady with blonde hair was extremely rude all the times i went. The last time I went it, has a horrible experience. I had called over the phone to place an order for 7! baleadas and was asked to pay over the phone which was fine as I had ordered prior. When I get to the store I get my food and go. As soon as I get back to my workplace I seen they sold me 15 baleadas instead of 7. I was very understanding, called them back and Cici i believe her name was, was very apologetic however she hung up on me a couple times and told me she heard 15 and there was nothing she could do, but after some talking on the phone she said i could head back to store and get a refund. So i head back to the store and the manager is there BEING EXTREMELY RUDE and infront of my face was telling the lady who took my order to block my number from ordering. I dont know why she thought about talking about a client infront of the clients face is a good idea or good customer service, its actually INSANE. The place is okay, however, the young lady is extremely rude and I feel as she is not FIT for the managing position or whatever she is. IF YOU DONT LIKE YOUR JOB DO NOT WORK THERE. As the face to the restaurant I feel as you should be compliant to what the PAYING CUSTOMER IS SAYING instead of completely disregarding what the client is saying after I have clearly stated that they didn't have to return the whole refund and how I was okay with keeping 10 baleadas instead of the 7 I ordered. I then asked if there was any way to hear the phone call, and the workers stated that was impossible as their phone line doesn't do that and that only the owner could hear over the phone call. YET the boss also failed to amend to me as the paying client. OVERALL, the food is okay, but the managing is horrible. I was able to hear over the phone call with my cellphone carrier, and i...

Nestled in north Fort Lauderdale, El Portal Maya is a gem of a Honduran restaurant that transports you straight to Central America with its bold flavors and authentic dishes. My recent visit with three co-workers was nothing short of delightful, as each plate we each ordered seemed to outshine the last.
I ordered the âsopa de res,â a classic Honduran beef soup that holds the honor of being the countryâs national dish. Itâs said that if you can master this dish, everything else is smooth sailing, and El Portal Maya proved it! The broth was rich and deeply satisfying, brimming with tender beef, vegetables, handmade tortillas and white rice â and a touch of homey nostalgia. It set a high bar, for sureâŚ
We began our meal with the tamal, a soft, savory delight that perfectly whet our appetite for the dishes to come. One of my co-workers opted for a baleada, which felt like a warm hug wrapped in a tortilla. This Honduran staple, filled with refried beans, pork belly, and a creamy white sauce, was a standout favorite. The vibrant encurtidoâpickled beets with a zesty punchâwas an unexpected yet welcome addition, elevating every bite with its tangy brightness.
The ultimate testament to the quality of the food? Clean plates all around. My co-workers and I couldnât resist savoring every morsel, leaving not a breadcrumb behind.
Weâve already decided that this wonât be our last visit. El Portal Maya offers more than just a meal; itâs a culinary journey that captures the soul of Honduras. If youâre seeking a flavorful, authentic experience, this is the place to...
Read moreI ordered takeout from this restaurant this evening online and went to get the food. The place was easy to find and I love Honduran food but there isnât really any Honduran food (that I personally know of) in the area and love baleadas and pupusas! When I walked in the restaurant was super clean and nice ambiance. The staff immediately greeted me and had my food freshly made for me. I got the chicken soup which had plantains, yucca, chicken and so many vegetables in it and tasted homemade and looked like everything was hand cut. This is so refreshing because many places you go out to it tastes artificial or has artificial ingredients in. It tasted so good! It also came with rice and 2 fresh tortillas that tasted like they had freshly been made with the masa taste. Then I ordered a bean and cheese pupusa and it came with cabbage slaw and red sauce (memudo broth) that again was freshly taken off of their stove and wasnât overfilled with beans or had little cheese. These two items cost 18$ and fed both myself and my husband for an easy dinner. I recommend this place and will be a...
