Burger Play — Restaurant in Fort Lee

NOT DOG FRIENDLY!!!!

We picked this place because we saw Google reviews saying it was dog friendly. Then before ordering, we asked one of the cooks whether we could bring our dog in for confirmation. He consulted the people in the back and said sure.

However, when we were waiting for our order, a man (the manager?) walked in and started angrily going off on us about how we couldn’t have our dog in here for dine-in and we needed to take him outside (tbf our dog did start barking at him at that point bc he sensed the bad energy lol). We explained that we’d received confirmation that it was alright prior to ordering so we thought it was okay. He went to the back to chew out the kitchen staff with “NO PERRO!” Then continued to be snippy with us and told us to take our dog outside and couldn’t be allowed in here. So I took the dog outside to eat my burger while the rest of my family stayed inside.

By no means do I think people should just take their dogs to restaurants where it’s not welcome. But 1) we had asked for confirmation to be safe and the manager still was super curt to us, 2) the whole restaurant is super dog themed and there’s no sign indicating that the reasonable assumption that the venue is dog-friendly may be incorrect, especially given that Google classifies this place as pet friendly

In the future you should clarify with a sign out front that this venue is not dog friendly!! It is only dog themed

Despite all that, the food itself was pretty tasty+good value, and the kitchen staff seemed pretty chill, so 3 stars is...

As a member of the Fort Lee community over my 21 years on this planet, I can say this is one of the best burger spots to have come into town in a very long time. Having worked in the restaurant industry, the quality of food is on par with that of a sit-down restaurant and trumps 90% of the burgers I've had elsewhere. Additionally, the service is out of this world. when I ordered takeout I had forgotten napkins and whilst already in my car the kind gentleman ran out before I left to ensure I had some before I left. While the food does take 10-15 minutes to come out I don't see this as a negative as the quality was truly out of this world and as the saying goes "Good things take time". New smash burger place alert!! This hole in the wall burger joint serves up a mean smash burger. I definitely recommended getting a double cheeseburger because you’re going to want to have more once you have a bite. The cheeseburger is super flavorful-you can tell it’s a homemade blend. I loved the shredded lettuce and special sauce on top…it makes it super juicy. I loved the hotdog too-just super simple and the bun really made it for me. The wings were great, the tots were crispy and I recommend getting the tots with chili cheese on top. It’s a super cute place that will soon have outdoor seating and it will be pooch friendly!
