Imagine paying $290 for color with no blow out and ruined pants.
This particular appointment was a lot colder than my other appointments. I don't expect to have a friendly conversation with my stylist but the vibes she gave were as if I should have apologized for being in her chair from the beginning of the appointment. My appointment was with Katherine. I've shared my story with some family members that previously also went to the salon and they shared the same sentiment about Katherine being cold.
She did not ask any questions about what I wanted after showing her a picture. Previous appointments with other stylists (whom are no longer there, more on that later in my review) involved them questions and generally ensuring sure we were on the same page. Might I also add she dropped bleach on my pants and let it sit there while she finished what she was doing with the strand of hair she was working on. I had to throw them out since it's not something I can fix.
With my hair still wet and sitting in the salon chair from the washing station, I sat there for 10 minutes waiting for the remainder of what I assumed (based on my other appointments) would happen, a blow out. The washing assistant came over and she placed a blow dryer and brushes in front of me and told me there were products I could use to blow out my hair. Implying that I would be doing it myself.
I thought maybe there was a language barrier and waited a few more minutes until Katherine came over and said verbatim: "I don't have time to blow your hair out and I have two other clients here". In the same sort of cold tone she used at the beginning of the appointment with her. She could have easily lead with anything else. She only offered to blow out my hair after I mentioned my previous experience with the same service. But she wouldnāt be able to do a full blow out, it was going to be a quick pass.
Unsure what that meant but since I have a curly hair texture that requires a bit more than just a quick pass, I decided not to. I felt uncomfortable with her stern tone. It would have been nice to know MUCH SOONER that I wasn't scheduled for a blow out with my service so I was not sitting around waiting.
I received this same service previously without a hitch with a stylist who is no longer there, Danielle, who did a fantastic job + a blow out. I spoke to the receptionist who offered to have the owner blow out my hair after her meeting. I was already so worked up I didnāt feel comfortable staying in the salon any longer and expressed that it didnāt make sense to not have a blow out with the color. How would I know if the color was what I had asked for or not. What about adjustments?
I was told that when the booking was made, it wasnāt penciled in for me to also get a blow out. I paid 145 (50% off $290) but the 50% off was only due to a salon promotion due to a majority of their stylists leaving (all at once might I add) for their own venture.
UPDATE: I straightened my hair and it doesnāt even incorporate my roots by my ear, I asked that those would be dyed and they werenāt. š SECOND UPDATE: the salon did reach out, but only for a cut/blow out which doesn't really fix the issues I have with my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have mixed hair (I'm Puerto Rican & Black) so I'm always a little nervous when it comes to going to salon for anything other than a hair cut. I'm always told go to a Dominican salon when I want it straightened. Which is what I've done in the past whenever I wanted to get my hair done but sitting under a dryer for hours and then having to endure my hair being pulled was no fun after a while no matter how sleek the end result was. A friend of mine recommended Amina Montoya to me last year when she worked at another salon and she has been my go to stylist ever since whenever I need a hair cut, blow out, or just a funky updo for an event. I was sad when I called the salon Amina previously worked at and was told she left. My friend wasn't even too sure where she went. It was a sad moment for me and I envisioned rollers and hair dryers in my future once again. But.... I FOUND HER!! Or rather SHE found ME. Salon 5 is awesome awesome awesome. Not only do they treat their clients like gold but they show true appreciation for their stylist as well. I received an email as well as a voice mail from the salon letting me know that Amina Montoya has joined their team and to call to make an appointment. You better believe I did. I actually made a 2nd appt while making my first appt just to ensure I got my girl back. And I couldn't be happier. Amina truly can do anything and I love her imagination & precision when it comes to hair cuts. I wanted something different last year but wasn't sure what since I know once you wash your hair and try to come close to that salon look it never happens. She told me she would give me a cut that was easy to maintain even on my own. She literally transformed me in a matter of 2 hours with just a pair of scissors and a flat iron. It doesn't matter what texture, length, or condition your hair is in, Amina will have you walking out the salon like you walked out of a Pantene commercial. I'll be seeing her again next week and I hope this review encourages others to call and ask for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreItās been 4 years since Iāve gotten my hair done in a salon and being here made me realize that I donāt need to go anywhere else!
When you come into the salon they seat you in the waiting area and not for long either. Then you are personally greeted by your stylist before making your way upstairs. They asked me if I would like a hot beverage while I get my hair done (which Iāve never experienced at a salon before). We spoke about how I wanted to style my hair and what would work with my face.
I have curly hair and was looking for a curly hair salon. My PAST experience with salons arenāt the best. You have to get up super early count how many people are ahead of you and hope you can finish before the day is gone. Itās smells like burnt hair, itās loud, hair all over the place and just not inviting.
My experience HERE is super welcoming! Everything is done by appointment so it doesnāt feel crowded! Super clean! It only smells like the pretty product they put on your hair. There is attention to every detail which I love!
Iāve been 3 times since and every experience is the same. Itās given me a new found confidence having curly hair. There are also different kinds of treatments to maintain your healthy curls you wonāt be disappointed! Highly recommend the steam treatment.
The price is extremely reasonable. My first visit was the most expensive but that is also because I hadnāt been to a salon in 4 years and was getting the works. My visits since then are in $75-$150 range depending on what treatments or cut I have done.
Your hair is the super star here⦠youāre just getting pampered in...
