Summary: A hole-in-the-wall Japanese curry place that is SO WORTH a visit. Delicious and tasteful Japanese curry with a variety of protein. Highly recommend! Dine in and takeout available! Small parking lot in the back.
My husband and I visited Sazanami for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. If you love Go! Go! Curry!, then you will drop dead for Sazanami!! I'm not joking, they are serving up some delicious curry that you won't regret having! To start off, we shared the Salmon Mango salsa (chunks of bell peppers, salmon and Mango wrapped with avocado and topped with a spicy mayo sauce). This was fantastic in flavor and the presentation was so simple yet beautiful! I really loved it and kind of wished I ordered my own, haha. For our entrees, I ordered the pork cutlet curry while my husband ordered the hamburger curry (the hamburger curry will take longer to cook since it is a thick ball of ground beef, just something to be mindful of). All entrees come with rice and a small miso soup. Both pork cutlet and hamburger were cooked perfectly and went so well with the curry. The flavor and richness of the curry was to die for!! The turmeric spice is very present in the taste and I just loved it! (if you're not a fan of turmeric, you may not like their curry then 😭😅) But eating it together with the rice and pork was just some kind of heaven I never knew existed, I'm not exaggerating. If you're a curry lover, you NEED to stop by Sazanami. You won't regret it!
They have other menu items as well such as some sushi rolls and appetizers. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit. I don't live close but this would be...
Read moreThis is a "if I could give 0 stars I would" kind of experience. I ordered through grubhub for delivery, the driver had trouble finding my apartment, which is fine those things happen, but when I called the restaurant to see if they can help them, they told me they never received any order and hung up.
Weird. Finally the food arrives and not only is my order incorrect, everything was terrible. I ordered a salmon roll and a spicy salmon roll, but received double salmon roll and two of them had a smear of spicy mayo, which didn't add up. Next, the meat in the dumplings was bland and not seasoned. The tuna and jalapeño on crispy rice was inedible, the rice was rock hard. The tuna was sinewy, had to pull hard peices of tough fat out of my mouth and the color of the fish was off. I decided to avoid food poisoning and throw the $50 worth of food in the trash. I understand restaurants can have bad days...but this was just awful. I regret so much trying a different place. I'll stick to the many other good restaurants...
Read moreSazanami is small with a few workers. There are about 2 tables for groups of 4, a few tables, and counter seating to watch the chefs work. It reminds me a lot of restaurants in Japan. Even with a smaller staff, they are excellent in their craft.
The menu is not incredibly large, but there is enough variety to leave you satisfied. The curry is extremely flavorful and the rice was perfectly cooked to be dense enough to soak up the curry and make your taste buds dance on each bite. The shrimp has a light crispy coating and is not rubbery; it was sweet and amazing. The soup that comes with the curry is a great compliment to the heaviness of the curry rice.
I left full, yet wanted to try the other dishes on the menu to see how the chef would take me back to Japan in...
