My daughter had been really wanting to try Jamaican food, so a week or two ago we stopped at this little restaurant. Mind y'all, this was right before closing time. The door was still unlocked, so we went in. There was no one still dining and we could tell that the lady of the house was wrapping up for the night. We simply asked if we could get a menu because my daughter and I have both been there. That last minute person when you're ready to go, yeah we didn't want to be that. The lady working was very gracious however and informed us that she still had some things that wouldn't be too much trouble. So, we went ahead and ordered from the selection. We had to wait a short while and we knew it was passed time now for this gracious woman to be out the door on her way home. Well, we started talking and had a nice conversation while we waited. We got the food to go obviously but I kinda wish we would've been earlier just so I could tell her how good it was. The food was down right delicious!!! So, of your looking for something with a little kick, a little spice and a whole lot of flavor, go give Island spicez a try. I'm willing to bet you will not regret it. I really wish I could remember her name, but to the last who made our dinner that night, if you see this I thank you for your hospitality and for the amazing dinner. You made my daughter's night which obviously made...
Read moreHad a brown stew fish with food ( yams + bananas) food was okay but the fish was horrible. The size fish is great for $17, no problem with presentation or portion.
The fish was fried too dry, then boiled. It had a long water not a gravy. Sometimes too much things added and it destroys the taste. This thing had no taste. Brown stew should be simple. Carrots, onions, tomatoes, scotch bonnet peppers, thyme, garlic, a little fish seasoning or house seasoning if they have their own rub. Inside of fish must have seasoning, this is where you should get that taste, getting to the head and rib area. Could also add a little ketchup to help with gravy or some grace fish tea mix. This will enhance the fish well.
I only eat fish, I know good food as I also do catering. Fish for brown stew should never be fried that dry. It kills the taste. Lightly fried, then finish the cooking while the gravy is being made. That's how you get a...
Read moreOverpriced oxtail, $27 for large and $20 for small. This is at least $10 more than most Jamaican restaurants. The lady said the price of oxtail went up but this was 2 years ago and prices have since dropped so she is lying. You can get oxtail for $9 a pound at Fowler meat and fish market a couple mins down the road from there. I know this because i buy oxtail all the time to make. If i didnt drive 30 mins in traffic to get there i would have walked out when she told me the price. On top of that the food was not that great. I love supporting black owned businesses especially Jamaican ones since i am a Jamaican but not when they're...
