When I searched for local shrimp po'boys 18 months ago when I first moved to Fort Myers, this place came up...but upon further investigation, it was a false positive. (There were no shrimp po'boy on the menu.) But a few days ago, this changed! A new menu includes po'boys, including shrimp! 🙂
So I had to go.
Let's call this their first draft. Version 1.0. Not bad for a first draft!!
A few things about this version are spot on. The shrimps are perfectly cooked: plump, juicy, tasty, but not overwhelming breading. No spice that I could discern (which is traditional, and fine ... see below).
The French roll is almost perfect, too! It is (very) lightly toasted, fresh, a little chewy with a bit of crunchiness in the crust. There's no butter as far as I could tell. There was a coat of mayo on one side.
The Romaine lettuce is fresh and nicely chopped.
The remoulade is creamy, and just a little tangy (but, again, no spice).
The tomato is.... oh, wait: no tomatoes.
No pickles, either. 😐
The remoulade was just drizzled on. I'm glad I ordered extra. I'd prefer replacing the mayo with remoulade. I'd also prefer a bit of spice.
After the first bite, I added Louisiana hot sauce. (Definitely needed. Much better.)
The whole, all things considered, was pretty good, as were the "cajun" seasoned fries.
I asked Kristi, the bartender/waitress, about the lack of tomatoes ... and ... pickles ... and....
Kristi acknowledged that there are ongoing internal discussions. And that tomatoes...and pickles...(and onions ...what?... No!)...have been ordered.
(I suggested dicing, rather than slicing, the tomatoes, to avoid overloading it. I also suggested making sure the pickles are mild...not too astringent... Butter pickles may be better than dill. I also suggested buttering the roll slightly before toasting, maybe even with garlic butter. And I (should have) said, skip the mayo, and use more remoulade. And definitely NO ONIONS!)
I should have added that adding a little spice to the remoulade would be good.
(She probably wondered: "who does this guy think he is?"! Fair enough.)
In any case, I hope I was helpful...and encouraging!
This is a very good first draft. I look forward to...
Read moreWe came in to celebrate my daughter's birthday. Her choice because this was her favorite place to come to. It was a Sunday evening around 545pm. The place maybe had 2 other tables and we were seated right away. Our waitress Renee was not so bright to say the least. I'm not sure if she was new there but her customer service skills need a lot of work. We tried ordering drinks from the bar and Renee would tell us that they didn't have that or make that. We had a party of 8. 6 of us ordered something fried one of us did one of the seafood boils and 1 person did not order anything. We would ask her questions about certain items on the menu and her answer would be I don't know. Well it is your job to know, so go find out, its not that hard. While one of us was trying to decide between 2 items on the menu. Renee our waitress mumbled under her breath wow you guys are complicated. When we were not at all. Completely unacceptable on her part especially when 3 of us heard her comment! I just wanted to get up and leave at that point but again my daughter wanted her seafood for her birthday. The food came out all at different times. We had ordered a kids nuggets meal which came out as wings when we told her this she proceeded to disagree with what was ordered. One of us ordered wings and fries and they just took the nuggets out the basket from the kids meal and brought it out with the wings. The fries on 4 of our orders were all under cooked. This was literally the worst experience we've ever had coming here. Renee was lucky about their party of 5 policy is an automatic 18% gratuity cause she definitely was not getting a tip from any of...
Read moreWent to this place for dinner with my husband and nieces this is a place that we went before so I didn’t think we were going to have any problems because we didn’t have any before until now where we spent like almost $200 on food we ordered.. one of the item we got was a mac & cheese there and when I tell you it was so nasty overcook noodles watery it’s like they put yellow food coloring so bad we didn’t even eat it all we only took about two bites and we let the waitress know who was super sweet and felt really bad and she was trying to take the mac & cheese off the bill she apologized and everything said she was going to talk to her boss and she came back face down and a little upset because she said that sadly her boss doesn’t want to take the item off and still charge us for some thing we did not finish eating at all she was so upset and she kept apologizing and I guess the boss blamed her for that incident when it had nothing to do with her when she’s not the cook in the back or the boss running the place lol.. So we was charged for something we didn’t finished eating cuz it was so bad and I honestly think that is so unfair.. trust me it’s not like we ate the whole mac & cheese and was like oh the things terrible no we literally took two bites because I took a bite and I was like oh wow this is nasty and then my niece who ordered it took her bite and refused to eat it.. so people please please be careful with that place because if there’s an item that they screwed up on and you didn’t like the boss who money hungry and a cheapskank ain’t gonna give you back your money at all..They treat their employees like poop!!
