During our stay in Mentone, AL, we had a craving for some good pizza. Checked out a few Google searches and yelp reviews. We were headed to another home town pizza spot when we ask someone in the parking lot for advice. They suggested we try Mater’s just down the road. Nice spot in the downtown district. Exposed brick walls and “bar pie” feel. We were seated quickly and ordered our appetizer promptly. Mozzarella sticks were hot and crisp, but obviously frozen. Still good, marinara sauce was thick and tasty. We ordered a thin crust pizza w Alfredo sauce instead of tomato sauce. Waitress said Alfredo was made to order so it might take a little longer. No worries. Pizza came out hot and bubbling. Crust was thin and crisp but lacked any airy fermentation in the bones. Pepperoni was crisp and tangy. Niblet pineapple was sweet and juicy. The Alfredo sauce was thin and lacked a garlic flavor. I did taste spicy jalapeño side note. Not sure if that was intentional or misguided. Overall, good experience. Better choice than chain store pizza. Nice bar pie atmosphere. 4/5, give it a try if your in town.

I read some reviews on the service being slow. I did not experience this at all. We are moving from Dallas to Fort Payne. One of my biggest adjustments is the speed in which things get done. I'm slowly adapting to the slower pace of life but this was the fastest service I have had in Fort Payne. Seated immediately, drink order taken within seconds, starter order taken as soon as the waitress returned with the drinks. She let us get started on our appetizers then took our order. We ordered 2 pizzas and watched the cars coming through Main Street. The appetizer was 'ok'. It actually had me fearing the pizza since my wife ordered some cranberry covered pizza and another without meat. My fears were wasted. The pizzas were amazing. I don't remember the names...sorry. once we were done, our waitress was there with a box and the check. She never allowed our drinks to reach half way. Loved the service and pizza. I'll be back.

The Pizza at the Fort Payne is not even close to the Albertville location. I ordered the field hand which comes loaded with peppers meats and thick cheese in Albertville. The Fort Payne location was just bread and sauce, I had no meat or peppers in one slice and it was not thick at all. I waited total over 2 hours to get my 12inch field hand. So service is not as good either. I maybe wait 45-hour in Albertville but I get a pizza loaded thick with toppings and flavor. Fort Payne I waited twice as long and got a pizza that was skimpy and had no flavor. Don't waste your time or money. When you charge that much for one pizza ($21) you expect quality and this didn't live up to the maters name in any way. Very disappointed! Check out the pics of the field hand I received.

I ordered a better boy's 10 inch pizza on the telephone at 6:20 PM they said it would be 45 to 50 minutes I told them I would come through the drive thru. I arrived at the drive thru at 7:12 PM. The girl at the window took my money and then said she would check in my order. In the meantime, one of the workers was grilling food out back of the restaurant, I guess for the restaurant, and one of the female workers brought him a pizza to eat. About 7 minutes later after the girl took my money at the window, she comes back to the window and tells me that they had got behind on the orders and my pizza would take 50 minutes to an hour. I told her it had already been an hour since I placed my order over the phone. She said. "I know. I'm sorry." I told her I wanted my money back because I wasn't waiting another hour for a 10" pizza. Then it took 4 people to come in the drive thru area to figure out hpw to get the register open to get my money out to give it back to me. Finally I guess a manager got my money and as he gave it back to me, said he was sorry. I told him sorry does not "cut it". I had read a lot of reviews about people complaining about the wait times so that's why I called it in. I figure the worker out back got my pizza and they figured it out and used the "got behind with the orders" excuse. I hope he enjoy "my" pizza. Good luck everyone if you try to eat here.

☆☆☆IN REFERENCE TO THE OWNER'S REPLY. I DID NOT CHOSE TO ORDER DURING A PRE NEW YEAR'S EVE BASH BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT A PRE NEW YEAR'S EVE BASH. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS INFORMATION BY THE PERSON THAT ANSWERED THE PHONE. I WAS TOLD 50 MINUTES TO AN HOUR FOR MY PIZZA TO BE READY. SO I TOOK HER AT HER WORD. IF I HAD BEEN TOLD THERE WAS A "BASH" GOING ON AND IT WOULD BE TWO HOURS FOR MY PIZZA TO BE READY, THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A DIFFERENT SITUATION. I KNOW YOU ARE NOT A PIZZA CHAIN LIKE THE ONE'S YOU MENTIONED. I'M SORRY THE WORKER GOT THERE AT 9 A.M. AND HAD NOT EATEN UNTIL THIS LATE AT NIGHT. KIND OF UNPROFESSIONAL THE OWNER STATED "YOU KNOW WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT ASSUMPTIONS." JUST REMEMBER, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. ALSO, I WAS VISITING THE AREA SO I AM NOT A LOCAL. IF I EVER COME BACK THROUGH, I WOULD LIKE TO TRY YOUR ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN. I HOPE YOU DO WELL WITH YOUR BUSINESS. HAVE...

My parents & I decided to try this place out tonight & we sat in the restaurant for approximately 25 mins without ANY service. A girl came to sit us at a table, but nobody ever came to ask us what we’d like to drink or get our orders or anything. There were 2 other tables occupied in whole restaurant & 3-4 servers & the bartender there, 3 of which were sitting at a table together talking the entire time we were there. There was 1 server that seemed to be checking in with the other 2 tables, she glanced at us several times & seemed to realize that we still hadn’t been served… Here’s the thing, I work in the restaurant business & have for years, I am typically extremely tolerable of little inconveniences at restaurants, I know things happen, sometimes workers are really busy, sometimes people mistakes, etc. I don’t know who our server was supposed to be, but even if they had no idea we had been there, the other server saw us sitting there several times & never bothered to come check on us, ask us what we wanted to drink, or go & tell our server about us & reassure us our server would be with us soon. From what I could tell, there was no reason, no excuse for how poor the service was. Multiple employees, almost empty restaurant, & 25 minutes of no service. After reading reviews about how long the food typically takes, we decided it wasn’t worth the time. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get to try the food. This may be the worst service I’ve experienced at...

The food is decent as long as you don't mind waiting for over an hour for it to arrive at your table. Our first visit was at dinner time. They were busy and we expected a wait for a table which we did. (They never called our name but marked our name off the list.) Then our waitress couldn't answer any questions about the menu. We all ordered plate meals (lasagna, manicotti, spaghetti, etc). The drinks came out timely, but our salads took about 20 minutes. Then another 45 minutes goes by. One lasagna comes out, while everyone else waits another 20 minutes for the other 3 of the 5 of us get our meals. My poor husband waited another 15 minutes for his manicotti to finally come out. We were there 2 and a half hours! We said we wouldn't be back for a while. But while walking by during lunch one day, they looked slow, the bay doors were opened, so we thought we'd give it another go. There were maybe only 8 tables of people in the whole restaurant. We were optimistic. Once again, it took 2 hours! Our waiter had to bring our check out 3 times due to errors. Then, we noticed a fee for using a credit card. We would have paid cash if we'd known. We LOVE to support local, and we had such high hopes for such a great location. But we will not be back until there's new management and better...
