You know how people say you don't know what you have until it's gone? Not true about Kim Vu's. I knew this place was awesome and if I ever had to leave or they closed that I'd spend a week in the fetal position on my living room floor. Heaven help you if you ever eat at Kim Vu's because you'll never want to go anywhere else. Any other meal you have you'll look back in with regret because you know what? You could have had Kim Vu's instead.
I probably went to Kim Vu's once every other week for two or three years. My family became regulars and the owner knew what we wanted as soon as we walked in. We always got egg rolls (best in town) and crab rangoons. I always got pho, which is top notch. The portions are generous and the prices are, in my opinion, a little low for what you're getting. Try out the spring rolls too.
We moved out of state two years ago and passed through town a couple weeks back. When we walked in the owner STILL REMEBERED EVERYTHING WE USED TO ORDER. He ran through the same questions he asked us when we were last there, "How many egg rolls do you want? And crab rangoons? Are you going to get a spring roll today?" It was as if we had just been in there last week. I had the pho with meatballs like I always used to and they were everything I remembered and more. I think I cried a little into my soup. I'm not ashamed. It was a spiritual experience.
When we were done with dinner, we got our taro bubble tea and I said I wanted mine mixed instead of blended. I honestly couldn't remember how I used to get it. He said no, you get it blended. You know what my stupid self did? I questioned the owner's memory. The bubble tea I got mixed was good and better than anything I had in the last two years but when I was done I realized my mistake: I always ordered it blended. I can now add mixed instead of blended tea to my list of regrets I'll have to take to my deathbed.
It should go without saying that the food here is amazing and I hope you'll try it out. If you go, pour a little blended...
Read moreThis is amazing, I'm just so happy that I was able to find Vietnamese at all here, I just moved here from Cincinnati which really didn't have any Vietnamese restaurants, but I was born and raised in Northern California and have been to some really amazing places there. I'd give this place 3 stars in comparison to CA taste, but as far as customer service, this guy is #1 of any restaurant any ethnic food I've ever had, and that says a lot. I will define tell be back again.
I ordered the Viet sandwich (pork belly) which I'm not overly fond of, the pork belly reminds me of bologna, texture wise. I'll try the beef one next time. The taste was there though, I love cilantro and fish sauce.
I also ordered the wonton egg noodle soup, was good but not a ton of flavor. They did full the bowl with goodies though.
I ordered the Vietnamese dumplings. He warned me that they're "gummy", I though I'd had something like it before but I havent. It's what I'd imagine jellyfish to be like and it's wrapped around pork. I honestly loved it! But I don't think it would be for everyone it's a very foreign taste and consistancy.
I got the spring roll as well. LOVE the spring rolls!!! I can come and order 6 of then and have that be my whole meal and leave happy. It comes with peanut sauce that doesn't have as much flavor as other vietnamese restaurants I've been to in CA, but it's still super good, my favorite by far at this location.
I got the egg roll, it was yummy too.
I ordered pho to take home so I don't know how that is yet, I seen some of these reviews praise it so we shall see later.
All in all I'm glad I came here, I...
Read moreThe vietnamese dumplings are absolutely delicious with chinese sausage and a lovel gelatinous dumpling. As good as anything i've had in vietnam or china. I'd go back,. just for this. The flat dumplings are very similar to a mexican tamale made with rice flour instead corn flour and steamed in a banana leaf rather than a corn husk. Really good. The goi roll was good but missing something (mint maybe?) and the pork had a funny texture The stir fried noodles were light and subtle in flavor. I liked that they used red, orange and green peppers. Warning - the photo on their website makes this look like you get beef, shrimp and chicken, but you have to choose one. I think it would work great as a combo. Lost a point for using styrofoam (petroleum based and non-recyclable) rather than something compostable. came back for our third visit the dumplings were as good as the first time. the beef pho was excellent with the flavorful broth that didn't need anything added to it. the hue style pho was not quite as flavorful but still good. the service was atrocious we waited 45 minutes for our food when people come in after us were getting served in 10 minutes. 3 tables that ordered after us had their food before...
