First time here. I really wanted some Mexican Street Corn and this restaurant showed good reviews, so have it a shot. Unfortunately, was a little disappointed 😕. Arrived about 6:30-7:00, there was only one maybe two tables occupied. So it was pretty empty. Artwork in the walls were pretty cool, but otherwise pretty plain. Lady server was nice, checked on us regularly. Chips and salsa: chips were pretty bland I'd say. No salt; was a brown chip instead of your typical white or yellow, and kinda small. They were ok. Salsa was watery and quite spicy for our taste. Appetizer: ordered the Elote (corn cob); when I finally got it (told me it could come before, during or after meal 🙄) it was boiled, instead of grilled, and just mayo, parmesan cheese and chili powder? However, I do love to eat my corn that way (with butter and salt n pepper), but I wanted the true Mexican Street Corn, and that wasn't it. Meals: kids beef taco with rice. Taco was a nice size for a young child, but only one taco. Came with Mexican rice. No option for fries that I seen. Chicken quesadilla looked more like tacos than a quesadilla. Came with the same rice, was ok. Came with 3. Tacos La Fogata: came with two sides, rice and a side salad. Didn't get the salad cus apparently they didn't have dressing? And wasn't able to substitute it....ok 🤷🏼♀️. Came with two tacos, and was actually really good. Very flavorful and juicy. Wish it came with more, lol. Also had a Fogata Burger to go: said it was very good and filling. So....all in all, it was ok. But in my opinion, for the price I paid compared to the amount of food we got, was a bit much. Didn't really balance out. Unfortunately, don't think we'll...
Read moreAfter reading all of the reviews, my wife and I decided to stop here for lunch as she had been craving Mexican food for some time.
As we were walking in, I noticed some sort of large sign on the front window of the restaurant about a liquor license. Apparently, La Fogata had recently applied for one but have yet been granted permission to serve alcohol. With that, this was the first time in my 25-plus years of adulthood not to have a margarita or a draft beer served in a glass the size of a fish aquarium while dining at a Mexican restaurant.
The chips and salsa arrived at the table. Not bad, but had better. We were given cups of complimentary soup though I didn't quite catch the name. It was good.
My wife ordered the chicken enchiladas and she thought her food was very good. I ordered the chicken burrito and it may have been the worst I've ever had.
First of all, it reminded me more of a wrap than a burrito. It was cut in half which I believe was a first. While the chicken was tender and juicy, it really lacked any flavor. When I ordered it, the server asked if I wanted it with "everything." I said "yes." Not sure what everything meant, but it wasn't much.
Maybe someday we'll be back, especially if and when they start selling...
Read moreWhere to start with La Fogata? We'd been meaning to get over there since a friend recommended it months ago, and today we finally made it. We went at an odd time, well after lunch but before dinner, and were one of a handful of tables. The menu was a good size and had a nice selection. The chips and salsa were delicious, and we got guacamole as well. It took a minute, but it was immediately evident that it was made fresh. The flavor of every ingredient stood out - none of that store bought blandness. We went with the beer recommendations as well, and found it complimented our food perfectly. The gorditas and flautas were delicious, again clearly made when we ordered them, rather than sitting on a grill or reheated in a microwave. I was especially impressed that the rice and beans - often just a space-filler - had great flavor. Everything was portioned perfectly, without seeming inflated to add more mental value. If you're in the area for a show at the Clyde, I recommend making time for this excellent little family restaurant. If you're not, I suggest making the trip anyways. I look forward to going back and wish...
