La Tortilandia — Restaurant in Fort Worth

I’m giving this a 3 star because last time we were there Karina was amazing. She checked on us multiple times. Made sure our food was good, our drinks were filled. She cared.

Today we went there and she wasn’t our waitress and we were bummed but understood. But I regret never asking for her. We had an elder lady in a black shirt at the bar and was the worst service ever. She came to us to get our order/drink order and gave us our food that was it. (Only had 1 drink! That’s it. Not an offer for another drink a water nothing!!!)I had to flag her down because our poppers were fridge cold. Not warm at all!!!! fridge cold. When I told her to touch it and fill it, she did and agreed how cold it was and she said she would get fresh ones. It took longer for those poppers to come back out than 2 meals and an appetizer to come out. All while we were sitting there with empty cups and her talking with employees and rolling silverware. When we weren’t getting service to even get our drinks filled I was done. I got up and went to the register to cash out. She came and started giving excuses and tried to give me a meal for free which I gave her another $20 and said that’s not what I complain about. I want good service when I go to a restaurant. She tried to explain why she didn’t help us and said she didn’t help us because the poppers were made again they were warm and not hot. (How did she know idk) so the kitchen making cold food is the reason she didn’t refill our drinks. I told her even The beer on tap was hot. She said many people have complained about that. Soooooo why are you still serving it??????? As I paid for all of my food including the hot beer, cold poppers and bad service she tried to give me the poppers which I refused because I believe they where touched by her and probably just microwave to a serving temperature.

All this being said and done ask for Karina. The food is usually good and Karina has amazing service skills. The poppers were a small portion on the complaint the service is just horrible with the elder lady in black shirt. Honestly ask for Karina and you will not be disappointed unless you get Modelo on tap or the combo which has the poppers. Update They is an obvious change in chef since some months back. The food is not what is used to be. The first time I gave it the benefit if the doubt everyone has bad days. But the last time our family went my daughter asked for grilled fish and it was black and completely charred, all one could taste was the burnt fish and an excessive amount of salt. Completely unedible so we brought it to our waitress’s attention. We have been long time customers and I never had this experience there before. We normally get Claudia who is always very pleasant and welcoming. This older white haired lady however was snappy and extremely rude. She was unpleasant throughout the entire ordeal and took it back. A few moments later she returned saying the whole staff in the back tasted it and it was “completely fine”, which I highly doubt as the dish remained intact. She snapped and told us we will still pay for it, which we had no problem with. I calmly asked if i can please order a different item for my daughter and we finished our meal, paid and left. That was the last time we have and ever will step into this restaurant. Best of luck to the owners as they are really sweet and friendly people. Unfortunately their staff will be the downfall of this place. EXTRA-ordinary. Every dish perfectly seasoned. The meat is tender and cooked to perfection. Delivered from Doordash, our order arrived hot and delish only 23 minutes after I put down the phone! We ordered: Gorditas de Beef Fajitas (generous serving of tender fajita steak in a thick, savory corn tortilla - comes with shredded lettuce/tomato salad and grated Monterrey jack cheese), Enchiladas Nortenas (classic Tex Mex scrumptious cheese enchiladas comes with refried beans that were very well seasoned and soft tasty Mexican rice), Chiles Toreados (fresh fried jalapenos --- the 'boys' loved these - HOT but yummm...), Plato de Barbacoa (you will want to order their made-in-house tortillas - only 50 cents - to go with the lovely pile of grilled, moist chopped beef - it also comes with refried beans and rice). We are EXTREMELY particular about Tex-Mex and Mexican food. I gotta say that La Tortilandia offers the best Mexican food I have had so far in Fort Worth and that is really saying something. Prices are super reasonable. They do serve breakfast classics starting at 7 am. We had enough from this order to share with a pal AND still had leftovers for 3 lunches.
