Update 6/20/22 - Service totally bombed tonight. We were left standing at the door for a couple minutes, finally sat down at an empty table until the server came out. She brought us water and menus but didn't bother to ask what we would like to drink (this is typical though for Swad). It was over 5 minutes before she finally came back to take our order (she took care of a To Go order first that walked in after we sat down and she gave us menus). There was only one other party in the restaurant at this time - so it's not as if she was swamped with tables - she just wasn't there. Finally she took our order. Appetizer arrived. Then my husbands vindaloo and rice, but not my order. Finally she bring the naan, but my entree is missing. The other table order something extra and that came out promptly - finally along with my order. Husband was basically finished eating by the time though and I did not relish the idea of essentially eating along - not to mention it was freezing cold where we were sitting, the rice and naan were now cold as well. I packed it up in take out containers I bring for the sauce and leftover bread. Husband had to go up to the counter to get our bill. A couple visits back I had decided to try something different - the butter chicken. They brought my normal dish instead. When I asked if it was the butter chicken, she assured me it was - even though the sauce was the wrong color and didn't have Any spinach in it - looked nothing like the picture on their own site. I liked my normal dish so I didn't argue. I doubt we will be back.
Previous review. I am not an expert on Indian cuisine but I do know that I love this place. My favorite is the Tikki Masala, either shrimp or chicken, (I've had this at 3-4 other places but I love Swad's version). The chicken is nice and tender. The vegetable Pakora is tasty and has a nice crunch. The garlic Naan bread has the garlic baked IN to the bread (instead of just added to the outside like one other place did). Basmati rice is so light and fluffy. Service is very friendly as well - may be a little slow sometimes because only one person takes care of the dining room (which includes walk-in AND drive-thru to go orders. It is one of our favorite...
Read moreGem of a place. Kind of hidden up on the hill among a bunch of other stores. Great selection of menu choices. I really wanted some goat curry and they had an excellent version of it. Meat was not too chewy and at the same time had enough bite in it. Sometimes goat curry is just a mess of bones and some meat morsels but these had really nice delicious morsels of goat in it. The Jeera basmati that came with it was wonderfully fragrant with just the right amount of spices used to cook the rice. I really enjoyed the rice. Just wished the portion was bigger. Loved the chicken lollipop, slightly different flavor profile than i am used to getting at other places but deliciously crunchy and flavorful. The garlic naan was a slight disappointment. It was thicker than i thought it should be, hard to chew and swallow. It did have a nice char to it. The meal itself was a little on the expensive side as the portions were smaller than most other Indian places i have been too.
Update oct 2021: I asked if mgmt had changed but they said no. the dishes are definitely different, menu also looked different. No more chicken lollipop. The basmati rice was also different, bland and just plain rice. The madras curry i had was decent, nice gravy with some coconut and generous...
Read moreThis was my first time trying Indian food ever so I didn't really know what to expect. I also don't have anything to compare it to so just keep that in mind. I tried the Chicken Curry and Garlic Naan. I was happily surprised with the Chicken Curry because it had such a rich flavor combination that I had never had before. The rice that comes with the Chicken Curry was great, too. Perfectly cooked and both the Chicken Curry and rice were big portions. The Garlic Naan was a little disappointing because I thought it would be more flavorful, but still a great side to go with my meal. The restaurant itself is quite small. There are about ten tables total with a bar area (I'm not sure if the bar is actually being used as a bar that serves alcohol). One feature that I did like about this restaurant was the fact that it had a drive-thru. It's very hard to find a drive-thru that serves high quality meals. The waitstaff was very friendly and helped us choose what to order since I had never been there. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very calm so if you are looking for a hot new restaurant with a line out the door, then this is not the place for you. If you prefer quiet, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, then this will be the perfect spot for...
