Sometimes you have to be honest... we pulled in the parking lot, leaving Scottsdale to find 4 eateries in this Plaza. We google searched and found this one to have a 4.7 star rating so we went with it, without hesitation. I love gyros afterall. We went in and looked at the menu while waiting behind one gentleman. I felt it was a little expensive for a gyro and then to upgrade it to a combo coming out to $15, but hey sometimes it is what it is. And don't forget the 4% service fee if you dare use a credit card to pay for your meal. I pay around $10 for a salad, gyro, and patates in Albuquerque for an EXCELLENT gyro combo. We ordered two combos and then proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait. We stood outside because there was so many people waking into the reaturanrt and just felt safer outside while we patiently waited. And waited and waited. 34minutes to be exact. While we waited we observed what was going on, there was only one person running the whole place? He took the orders, cooked the food, answered the phone... with all that going on how does he find time to clean? Wipe the tables, wash his hands, clean door handles, its COVID times! I read alot of reviews and one mentioned the gentleman not wearing gloves and a mask etc. And hindsight he didn't while I was there either! No gloves, but handling money, answering the phone, handling food? He did have a plastic barrier between him and the customer but still WASH YOUR HANDS! I was excited to eat because so many people showed up, and the reviews were so good, but when I finally got my order and jumped in the car to eat, I was left with an underwhelming feeling.... my gyro was cold, tazki sauce was only on the one end of the gyro and the way it was wrapped invited you to eat the sauce first not knowing the rest of your gyro doesn't have any on it. It was just meh. $31? Na. Not that good. I tried my sons Philly gyro which was hot and actually tasted good! Again not $31 good though. The hummus was decent and the pita bread was very good. If this guy was to get some help and be a little more sanitary this has potential to be a 5 star. Best of...
Read moreThe service/cleanliness/health standards in this place was pretty terrible. I stopped in and placed my order and once my money had been processed I registered that the cashier/cook was not wearing a facemask. He stood up from the table he was sitting at when I walked in and didnt wash his hands. There was no protective glass in place to prevent the pandemic from spreading from him to I during the transaction. After I realized that their were no preventative measures in place to keep me healthy I understood that for me to eat there would be a big risk. I'm from tucson and I know that the cases of coronavirus are extremely high in Phoenix and I personally want to do everything I can when purchasing food to make sure that is coming from a business who cares about health and wellness. I explained to him why I needed a refund and that I could not eat there and I would not be eating the food he was preparing. There was no way apparently for him to put the money back onto my debit card so I insisted he gave me cash. He replenished a portion of the money I had lost but didnt reimburse me all of it. I told him I can't eat here because he wasnt wearing a facemask and he was breathing all over the food he was preparing. He insisted that since the meat is heated to 400 degrees there is no way for the virus to survive. Ok, but what about your unwashed hands that you were probably using to touch your phone moments ago, what about the uncooked lettuce and tomatoes and onions. What about the bread. He actually said to me that he wears gloves to prepare everything but I saw him put the meat on the griddle and he had no gloves on and didnt wash his hands prior to preparing the meat. The whole experience was honestly very frustrating and disgusting. How are you going to sell facemasks at your front counter and not be wearing one yourself when you are serving and preparing food for people....
Read moreSo it's basically an overpriced pile of meat on a pita. Almost no other ingredients other than meat. Especially the most important, grilled onions! If you want to try and add some flavor with tzatziki sauce, that's going to cost you an extra 2 bucks! Probably towards the bottom of any Gyro or Shawarma that l've EVER had. Then to top it off, he charges a 4 percent fee plus $1.50 for any credit card transaction. Wow! Having owned a few small businesses, we call this the cost of doing business and the fees we pay to the credit card companies are a write off. The fee a business pays to a credit card merchant (payment processor) is sometimes negotiable and is usually between 1.5 to 3.5 percent with a 4 percent fee a rarity. Which is why some businesses don't take American Express as their fees are very high. So he makes money on most transactions and then he makes even more with the bullshit $1.50 on top of that. Also, know that it is ILLEGAL to charge a customer a fee for a debit card even if it is processed like a credit card. This is a FEDERAL law. I actually wanted the plate when I walked in this place until my wife and I saw the price of $21.00 . Are you kidding me! Place could also use a very extensive cleaning. Definitely done...
