I can't give this course less than three stars. If it were up to the condition of course, price, and quality it would be an absolute 5 start course. Yes, you will see many reviews that complain about the pace of play. Yet, it makes sense when given the price. If you are looking for a great course that has some of the best kept greats in ALL of OC then Mile Square is a great option. Just be prepared for an four and a half to five hour round.
Now... let's get to the reason why I have to give this course a three star review. It all comes down to one special individual, Kevin. The man either lives in a world where he's been managing Pebble Beach (in his mind) or is completely delusional. The impression he gives is that HE IS GOLF. How dare you question his authority in HIS DOMAIN. I've compiled some of my favorite Kevin quotes:
Our cart died in the middle of the fairway. We tried to reset, turn off and on, basically ALL you can do to restart a cart. I call the pro shop and breakdown our issue. Kevin, "our carts don't die" me, "oh... well I'm sorry but we've tried everything we can to get it to work", Kevin "Yeah our carts don't die but I'll send someone out to show you how to use a cart"... ouchy Kevin... Sure enough someone came out and shocker... cart was dead
I called ahead to inform Kevin we'd arrive right on time. Once we arrived he asked that I go get the other person in my twosome. I said, "could I pay" he said, "no" I said, "why not" he said, "Bc we have a system" I said, "I'm going to get him... then come back... like in 5 minutes you are delaying the inevitable" he said, "no you're delaying it". Now I will say Kevin is not the only one to blame in this interaction. I should have been able to read his mind. That's on me, we went back and forth I tried to use reason and logic but... nothing can sway Kevin. In his domain? No sir... Have heard of a lose lose lose scenario? Kevin seems to live there. Finally he hit me with the following, "We never have any issues with children here only adults" BOOM roasted. He also kept repeating how they'd been doing this for 55 years? As if... that mattered. Ok... that's fair the course has been doing it for a long time. But if you see other reviews the pace of play is bad...mmmmmmmmight be time for a change bud.
Alright, that's it. All that to say it's a great course. But I hope that you now prepared if you come across Kevin. You will lose... then lose... then lose. You will get...
Read moreExceptional Venue for a Celebration of Life From my very first conversation with Ana and Bryana, I knew Mile Square Golf Course was the perfect place for our Celebration of Life. Their kindness, professionalism, and warmth made a difficult time so much easier, and I am beyond grateful for the experience. The venue itself is stunning, elegant, light, airy, and uplifting, which was exactly what we wanted for this occasion. The room’s clean, timeless aesthetic required little decoration, yet it felt warm and intimate. The table spacing was perfect, offering both comfort and closeness for our guests. The accommodations were top-notch. The team provided a large screen and laptop for our video montage, a cable to play personal music through the in-house speaker system, as well as a microphone and podium. They even supplied an easel for our loved one’s portrait and an additional table for photographs, ensuring that every personal touch was seamlessly integrated. The linen selection was extensive, but we opted for classic all-white linens, which complemented the elegant setting beautifully. The service was impeccable. Ana and Bryana were not only responsive, professional, and incredibly accommodating, but also genuinely kind and authentic, a quality that extended to the entire staff. They ensured that everything ran smoothly, and their attention to detail did not go unnoticed. The water and tea pitchers were always full, plates were cleared discreetly, and the overall hospitality was second to none. The food was exceptional, our guests couldn’t stop raving about it! While everything was incredibly delicious, the Waldorf salad, fresh vegetables, warm rolls, chicken and cookies were particular standouts. It's almost impossible to find a meal of this caliber for just $30 per person, making it not only a beautiful event but an outstanding value. Logistics were effortless. The club’s entrance was easily accessible, parking was a breeze, and the staff even allowed me early access to set up table centerpieces and our photograph table. Set-up and breakdown were seamless, handled efficiently and professionally. If I had to describe this experience in one word: exceptional. The level of care, service, and quality provided by Mile Square Golf Course exceeded every expectation. I am so grateful to have chosen them for this special event and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a truly elegant, stress-free, and beautifully executed...
Read moreGreat course all around, just have a complaint about the ranger. Came for a morning tee time. The ranger was an older gentleman with white facial hair wearing glasses. At the 2nd or 3rd hole he tells my party to pick up the pace of play, which is understandable. However, at every hole the ranger is hovering over us and watching us. By the 5th or 6th hole, the ranger tells us again to hurry up. We tell the ranger we’re trying, but we’re trying to find our ball which we only ever took around 2 minutes before we call it a loss and drop one. By the 7th or 8th hole, our party is about to tee off but the ranger is posted on the left rough. We now have to wait for him to leave before we can tee off, which doesn’t make sense because the ranger has been telling us to pick up our pace of play but now he’s delaying our game by posting up in the left rough. At the end of the 9th hole, my party and I decide to go to the snack window for some refreshments. The kitchen tells us to wait so we do. The ranger comes up to us again and tells us verbatim, “So you guys are just going to hold up everybody else?” We tell the ranger we ordered some food, and that we can let the other parties go ahead of us. But he responds saying it’s too bad and we have to tee off, then we can come back to get our food. All in all a good course, but with a ranger like this; it does not want us to come back here and give them...
