We ate here on a Saturday evening and ordered: drinks: mythology BF bourbon, topo chico a charcuterie board with duck proscuitto, wagyu bresaola, and sawatch gouda hash (brussels with goat cheese & bacon) beef brisket (a sandwich) steak frites medium
For that, we spent 135.50 and then tipped 20% on top of that, which was one of our priciest dinners in Steamboat, CO. It was pricier than the menu we found online & the options were different as well. We'd eaten at Salt + Lime, Besame, Table 79, Aurum, and a few other spots, all of which are phenomenal, much better choices.
The good: and the reason I gave it at least 1 star. Amazing location, beautiful patio on a creek with a really nice vibe. The drink was good (it was just whisky on ice). Friendly waiters. One note - the waitress we had, while friendly, didn't seem to understand very standard questions. My partner wanted to order a couple small plates for his meal & asked how large the servings were for these small plates. And the waitress said the small plates served 2-3 people. When asked if she meant 2-3 people for an appetizer or snack or a full meal, she just looked confused and said "2-3 people". She was friendly, though, it was just tough to communicate with her and I understand how challenging waiting tables is so, with that, the waitress was more than anything a positive.
The bad: sort of everything else. We've had much, much better charcuterie elsewhere, for example. For $32 for 3 meat/cheese options (duck proscuitto, wagyu bresaola, and sawatch goud) the serving was tiny. There were 4 thinly sliced pieces each of proscuitto and bresaola. And the taste of the proscuitto was overwhelmed by peppercorn or something. The bresaola was good, but the slices were so thin, the amount served was certainly less than an ounce (maybe less than 1/2 ounce, it was literally almost nothing).
Then my partner ordered the hash & brisket as his meal (and said as much) and I ordered the steak frites as my meal. However, they came out at completely different times. I'm sure it was a unique way of ordering, so I actually didn't fault them for that, but if people care about eating as a group, that would be something to consider.
The meal itself was actually awful, as well. We are always eager to order brussels at every restaurant -- usually its one of our favorite things on the menu. My partner couldn't finish it. The cheese was like 1/2cup or more on top of a relatively small plate of shaved brussels. However, worse than that, the bacon was cured and there was a lot of it (usually not a bad thing) and the brussels were salted additionally so it was WAY over salted. The brisket he ordered was just so strange. The flavor combinations made no sense....if you have really great brisket, you don't need to mess with it too much. The bread and onion and brisket was fine, but the "special sauce" that they have on it is essentially store-bought nacho cheese sauce and there was a TON of it. It completely ruined the brisket sandwich. Again, my partner couldn't finish it.
For me, I couldn't finish the steak frites and it wasn't much food (esp. for $45). I don't know how they cooked it, but apparently it was cured or something. Something to do with the curing made the taste incredibly strong and peppery. But, the worst part was that it was 90% well-done. There was one piece of steak that was medium or medium-well. But the rest of it was brown throughout with absolutely no pink (and they cut it before serving it so they had to have known). It was hard to chew and an incredible disappointment for $45! The shoestring fries were actually good, so we ate most of those.
Overall recommendation: if the menu is what we had, skip it. Go there and have a drink in a beautiful location & eat in one of other the numerous wonderful dining locations...
Read moreFrom the very outset, stepping into Laundry reveals a tantalizing enigma: a cozy interior giving little hint of the expansive alfresco wonder that lies beyond its confines. In the warmer months, one is led into an intricately designed outdoor space, replete with hidden nooks that invoke immediate comfort. The gentle murmur of a nearby creek offers the kind of auditory blanket that lulls one into a serene trance.
What is most compelling about Laundry is its effortless juxtaposition of casual ambiance with culinary excellence. The cuisine here is not just outstanding; it is invitingly accessible to all palates. The fact that the establishment was brimming with patrons even during off-peak times stands testament to its allure.
As for the meal itself, we embarked on the prix fixe journey — an odyssey of flavors tailored for two. Beginning with a lettuce-wrapped pork belly, the allure was instant. This was followed by a compressed melon salad that could easily be described as a contemporary twist on the peach burrata classic. Then came a shrimp dish that flirted with spices in a manner most inviting to aficionados of heat. The journey culminated in a symphony of vegetables paired with a bison strip loin that left no doubt about Laundry’s culinary prowess.
While the entire menu beckons with promise, a special nod must be given to their rendition of fish and chips. But the true show-stealer? The unassumingly mentioned eggplant fries. A delightful surprise, these fries elevate the dish to something truly memorable.
In summation, Laundry is more than just a dining experience; it is a masterful play on senses, an establishment where the ambiance and cuisine waltz in...
Read moreUpdating as it's disgusting that this establishment responds to only positive reviews but is a complete coward when there are negative reviews. Do you want to go to a restaurant that doesn't take accountability? Then go to Laundry. I'm giving this restaurant just one star due to an unfortunate set of circumstances. My fiancé and I ordered an $89 bison steak, among other things, and the steak was served by mistake to the table next to us. The patron dug into the food before his server rushed back with the correct plate. His server took back our meal from him and brought it back to the kitchen then came and told us they had accidentally served our steak to the wrong person. Then, instead of remaking the steak, about three minutes later, our server brought it to our table without addressing the situation. It was clear that was the same steak touched by the patron seated next to us. It was also cold. We would have said something but the restaurant was closing soon and we didn't feel comfortable returning the plate to our server as he wasn't the most welcoming server we've had. Before that, while ordering, the waiter had stopped us from ordering the rest of our meal because he felt what we ordered was enough. Unfortunately, this experience ruined the restaurant for us. We were really looking forward to this dinner as we've been there years ago and remembered how great it once was. Our expectations were high not only because of that, but also because of the high prices charged. In this case, we didn't get what we paid for. I hope this was just a one-off mistake and that the restaurant takes precautions to handle these types of situations differently...
