Today my wife and I decided to go Smell that Bread for lunch. We walked in with our certfied Service Dog and started looking at the menu. A young man behind the counter told me that no dogs are allowed inside. I explained that she was a Service Dog which was clealy marked on her leash and harness. He again stated that didn't matter no dogs allowed. I informed him that refusing to allow my dog in was a violation of Federal Law. He said that didn't matter no dogs allowed inside. Rather than cause a scene we left and went to Creek Side next door. We had a great lunch and sat inside with my Service Dog. I have NEVER had any issues going anywhere in Steamboat with my Serve Dog. I think the owners of Smell that Bread should familiarize themselves and there employees with American Disabilities Act it could save them a potential lawsuit in the future. I gave the Smell of Bread 1 star not for the food (because we didn't eat there an won't in the future) the rating was for how they treated us.
Response to the response.
First let me say the I never said "Your going to regret this " nor was I loud or rude. I am sorry if your staff was rattled by me saying that they were violating Federal Law. Your characterization of how my wife and I responded is just not true. As an owner I suggest you become more familiar with what the law actually says because what you said in your response is not true.
Rules for Your Service Animal "Under the ADA, a public accommodation may not ask you questions about your disability or demand to see certification or other proof of your animal's training or status"
You can pull up underfrequently asked questions on the internet or go to ADA.gov I am only responding at this point to help you understand what you can and cannot due in the future. I have no interest in pursuing this and wish you and your business success in the future.
As a footnotes we did have her certification...
Read moreLove the baked goods but I am consistently disappointed with Smell That Bread Bakery's wishy-washy hours and inability to keep items in stock. Over the last 4 years, I've made my way to this bakery to pick up their famed almond croissants - absolutely fabulous - but have left disappointed. Countless times I've came during their posted business hours, and they are closed with no explanation. Other times I'll come and they will be sold out of their most popular item that everyone in Steamboat knows them for. I understand supply and demand but wouldn't it make sense to bake more of what people want? Seems like they are leaving money on the table. Aside from that, the consistent closures are what bothers me most. I've gone out of my way more times to visit STB than I care to recite, and walked up excited and ready for my pastries only to see the place is closed. STB made a post on instagram about holiday baked goods and their hours of 7AM to 2PM on Thursdays, so I showed up around 8:45AM and everything was locked up. Two other customers were walking up and I let them know they were closed, and they too were frustrated. I made a comment on their instagram post stating they were closed during their posted hours and the owner deleted it, instead of apologizing or even acknowledging it. As much as I love their baked goods I'll bring my business to Beard and Braid because their almond croissants are just as good and they seem eager for business whereas STB only serves its customers when...
Read moreThis business honestly frustrates me every time ive been to it. My first complaint is they seem to be never open and even when their voice-mail says they are going to be open and says specific dates they are not open. The last time I managed to actually shop there a bunch of chatty teenagers were working and they watched me walk in and continued to have their conversation for another minute or so before even acknowledging me. They were kind and helpful, but dang man at least say hello when I walk through the door. Overall the pastries are good, I wouldn't say they are amazing or anything you should inconvenience yourself for, they are simply average. The bred is well made and the taste is good thats really all to say about them. I will say they are a bit pricey $6 for basic pastries seems steep. I assume they are having staffing issues which would lead to the closures and high prices. I would say if they are actually open for once it is worth stopping by, but I cant really leave more than 2 stars for a business thats not doing business. Ill update this review if their business...
