Terrible - food was sub-par, recipe for teriyaki chicken apparently is fifteen dollars worth of the following: 1 grilled chicken breast, sliced not diced 1 teaspoon sesame seeds, burnt and sprinkled on top of chicken 2 cups of broccoli florets and lengthwise cut carrots 1/3 cup teriyaki sauce in a plastic cup on the side - dry and disgusting
‘crab Rangoon’ which is a Chinese dish anyway in the states (substituting salmon for the traditional crab meat) - yuck
Seafood soup - think of a medium sized plastic container full of some kind of strange tasting, way too much sodium, chopped vegetables (all cheap veggies) and maybe a handful of ‘seafood’ chunks and two pieces of shrimp. Add to that a package of shrimp flavored ramen (think the quality of that cheap ramen you can buy a metric ton of at wholesale places) that is mostly dry and in a big lump inside the container.. for another fifteen dollars
Our order was complete with fishy-smelling (and tasting) sushi - meaning the fish they used was already bad before preparation- for another fifteen bucks
With tip, the total was a whopping sixty something dollars for food I wouldn’t serve to dogs.
Oh, did I mention the order was ‘misplaced’? So we order and show up to pay and pick it up, and nothing is ready. Meaning, we had to wait even longer just to get the garbage food!

Read moreShort version: Great food, great service, relaxed atmosphere, ok price. I was on the way home from a morning in the mountains and saw a sign for Okinawa Sushi from 470. Having lived in Okinawa for 5 years I was struck with a bit of nostalgia and decided try it out. I got the Fireman's and the Silk roll, then ordered some pork broth Ramen, as I assumed that was their name for tonkatsu Ramen. I paired all of that with a lychee sake. The bowl of Ramen was large. Easily a meal by itself. The broth was delicious, the noodles were good, though not my favorite type, the char-siu pork was great, the egg was more done than I like it, but all-in-all the Ramen was a win. The sake was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the sweetness with salty rich broth. Both sushi rolls were full of flavor without being drowned in sauce. The whole meal was delicious, though a bit too much for one person, I had to bring home the sushi I didn't eat for my kids. The price without tip was around $60. A little more than I would like, but not really above the average any more. Summary and recommendation: I enjoyed my time there. I ate at the counter and relaxed. The server was friendly and attentive. I wasn't rushed at all. It was a great lunch. I wasn't really struck by any particular decor or atmosphere that made me remember Okinawa, but it was a good meal. I would totally...
Read moreThe first time I tried to visit Okinawa Sushi, they were closed. I won't forget it because it was July 4th, and the owners were hosting an in-house Independence Day barbeque for their employees; they were setting grills up out on the sidewalk when I came by. I found it memorable on two points: first, a family of immigrants celebrating a quintessential American holiday in old fashioned American style; second, they didn't hesitate to invite me to join them. (Unfortunately I had to decline.)
Four weeks later I got to try visiting again, and I was not disappointed. The service was terrific, the menu expansive (the wine list especially), and most importantly, the food delightful.
I started with the baked Bay Scallops appetizer. It was served obscenely hot, as it should be, a perfectly balanced combination of scallops, mushrooms and magic sauces. My next course was yellowtail carpacio, also from the appetizer list, another example of freshness and balance. I finished with salmon and yellowtail nigiri, and was pleased to find it served in the traditional Japanese style, properly sized and proportioned to consume in a single bite, with fresh wasabi already on top. With that, Okinawa Sushi passed the "acid test".
I can't way to...
