Sunny Sky Pies — Restaurant in Four Corners States

Ordered a special made gluten-free cherry pie for wife's birthday per her request. Went in to pick it up, and there was no labels indicating gluten-free. No ingredient list. The associate ran my card, and I asked for a receipt. Her reply was baffling! "We do not have any way to print a receipt"!! No documentation for a purchase is unheard of in any credible establishment.

As for the pie itself: Rather than a traditional crust as in the same crust as the pie shell, it was topped with a crumbly mixture similar to a dutch apple pie. I have never seen a cherry pie topped with a "substitute" crust. It did not pair well with the cherry filling. It appears they took a pre-made gluten-free crust, dumped in a can of cherry filling, baked it, and sprinkled their non-traditional crust to top off the pie. This method eliminated the need to actually make a gluten-free crust. That was my clue that they simply purchased a pie shell, rather than make it from scratch. The cost was three times the price of a gluten-free selection from King Soopers, and the taste was less than impressive, resulting in a huge embarrassment on my part for special ordering a sub par product. Very disappointed and was definitely over charged...

I came across Sunny Skies Pies by accident. Their location is near Vern’s Toffee House, a well loved destination for toffee lovers. I saw the Sunny Skies Pies sign through the window. It looked as though the business was not quite set up for retail sales. The owner/baker told me they were selling pre-ordered pies and she hoped to have the shop opened soon. They did have two pans of the most incredible cinnamon rolls for sale in their bakery case. The rolls were still slightly warm and thickly covered in icing. I could barely get home without ripping into the pan. The rolls were tender and flavorful with a slight sugar crunch under the plentiful icing. The icing didn’t overpower; the creamy texture complimented the rolls perfectly. I look forward to trying the pies at Sunny Skies. If the cinnamon rolls are any indication of the quality of their baked goods, I’m sure they will also become a well loved...

Let me start this off by saying you have never in your life tasted a pie as delicious as this one. Doesn’t matter what flavor- they’re all I incredible!

I am super picky with sweets. I grew up with a Grandma who came over with a pie and/or cake every Sunday afternoon. And when I tell you these pies are the best I’ve ever had, I mean it. I can specifically say the Chocolate Crème, Key Lime, and Coconut Creme are my personal favorites and while normally my family can split pie pieces, not this pie, we all need our own pieces because it’s that good.
