Was told about this restaurant by a friend, so the Mrs. and I went.
We walked in and it was WAY brighter than I was ready for and had to squint for a second, until my eyes adjusted, and then it was still uncomfortable with the refraction from the white walls.
She of course dipped to the bathroom, I got led to the table, told them our drink order, then went to wash up, meet up, point out our table and commence to enjoying the victuals offered.
While I was awaiting her emergence, I noticed that the floor was quite slippery, but dismissed it to being a fresh oops, that left a residual film.
Turns out that the floor is like that wherever there are tiles, but the rugged areas are OK.
It was like walking on ice. I thought it could be my fairly new Merrells being in need of some more roughing up for traction, but as I looked around, everyone was ice skating a bit.
When the Mrs. went to sit, she had to hold on to her walker and the table, to make sure her feet didn't leave their appointed positions without permission, and allowing gravity to assist more than would be welcome.
Moving onto the food... I eat about 90-95% veggies and they had the cursory mushrooms in oyster sauce, sauteed green beans, steamed veggies and veggies lo mein and fried rice.
I will grab the broccoli from the chicken & broccoli, instead of the steamed and it still had body, but wasn't crunchy, which is perfect for me.
Some of the chicken was a little rubbery, but that's the norm with any that's been on a steam table for a minute, and the fresh was perfectly cooked and delicious.
I also got a little of the black pepper chicken and it was some of the best ever.
The wife found a lot of her favorite dishes in the sweet and sour chicken, pineapple shrimp, crab Rangoon and veggie lo mein.
We were both glad that there is no pork in the spring rolls and they were good.
They have a little sushi section, so I always get wasabi and ginger for my spring rolls, and the ginger was the best ever. It was white and was just ginger, not pink and sweet like so many are.
The dessert offerings are without ice cream, but enough for a sweet finish, to a good meal.
The owner is clearly a caring and giving person, as I watched him throw in a drink for free on a to-go order and a little treat to a child, that I'm sure made their dining out experience that much more memorable, which is also smart marketing.
If you're in or near Royston, do give them a shot, as the food was some of the better, I've eaten in similar restaurants and I cooked in a country club for 5 years, so I got to know food, a little bit.
If it was a little more of an intimate and warmer colored setting, and a little less precarious traveling to and from the food area, it would be 6 star review.
We'll be back, and if it's as good or better, will become our default buffett.
Safe travels and hope...
Read moreAfter a long anticipated wait for this place to reopen with a new look, I am 100% disappointed. Went there tonight to pick up dinner. Waited nearly 45 minutes for 2 combo plates. Got home to missing egg rolls and crab rangon. I understand things happen, so I went back to the restaurant to pick up my missing items. I was told it was going to be a 10-15 minute wait. When I explained that my food was going to get cold, they just ignored me. I finally got their attention again and asked for my money back. I was offered donuts. They never took into consideration that all I wanted was for all my food to be fresh at the same time. Finally I said, I just want my money back. They gave it to me, but tried to take their time so the egg rolls and crab rangoon would be ready. I will not go back to this place. Nobody seemed to...
Read moreNeutral atmosphere, kinda felt like a high school lunch room. Sesame chicken was delicious on the buffet and on the pick up order we had a few days later. Lo mein noddles with and without veggies was delicious. Tempura shrimp and regular shrimp were delicious. Crab legs were smaller on the buffet, they had gloves but the little forks were not available. Desert bar bananas were okay with the red sweet sauce and banana cream were again okay. I would recommend they allow the customer to peele their own bananas for those two desserts so they are not saturated and gooey on the outside. They save on unused bananas and customer get crispy bananas! The coconut truffles were delicious. Jello was delicious,...
