Perfect atmosphere, perfect family spot. A friendly, professional staff, and great attention to detail from the kitchen make Uncle Tanks a must to visit. We were really impressed with Uncle Tanks! Uncle Tanks has been transformed from a neighborhood bar into a family pub in the best sense. The bar is certainly accommodating, but the food and companionship are what you come for. It's easy to strike up a conversation with people you've never met, each enjoying the conviviality Uncle Tanks provides. As mentioned, Uncle Tanks provides an extensive menu (as you'll see by our choices, there's something for everyone). Kids will feel as welcome as their elders both in the atmosphere and in the food choices. No need to worry about the kids being exposed to a rowdy bunch, even though Uncle Tanks is not our definition of sedate. We arrived at 5:00 pm to a full parking lot. We were told we could get a table in 20 minutes, so we chose to sit at the bar until we could be seated. The folks next to us had a Yadda Yadda Empanada, which, they claimed, was the best. We tried the empanadas (you get 3), and they were indeed excellent, with thin crisp shells and flavorful filling. I should also say my wife pronounced her Cosmo as one of the best she's ever had. Once we were seated (and, in about the stated 20 minutes) we had a pleasant table and a great server. My wife ordered the Can’t Banh Mi Love sandwich: we've been to plenty of Phò restaurants that didn't have buns this crispy for their banh mai, the bun surrounding delicious pork belly and spices. I had the Na Zdrowie! entrée: the kielbasa and pierogis were worthy of the best of any Polish restaurant we've been in. We were at Uncle Tanks at a busy time, but the staff never made us feel rushed, and we're accommodating throughout. Bar service was excellent, again making sure each customer was satisfied. The decor is clean and pleasant. Parking was good, even though we were unable to park in the lot, we found a spot. Uncle Tank himself came out and greeted customers, and the maitre d', Kathy, was friendly and engaging. We found sound volume to be a bit high, but it was wonderful to hear happy people in a happy place. We wish Uncle Tanks good fortune. ...
Read moreThis was our first time here and it’s a cute spot with a fairly good amount of seating and a bar. So the three stars really could be a 2 1/2 for the service and the food is about a 3 . We were sitting at our table for about 10 minutes before the manager Kathleen ( I think that was her name) came over and asked if we had a server come to our table yet. She took our drink order and our food order. Then our actual server came over five or so minutes after the manager had already taken the order she apologized for not coming over . By that time is was too late . The manager brought my gumbo over which was pretty good (tad salty but tasty) . My husband ordered mushroom Swiss burger which was pretty good but a tad dry and the burger wasn’t in one piece on the Kaiser roll so started breaking apart when you bit into the burger we needed ketchup and no one seemed to come check on us after our food arrived so my husband walked up to the front and grabbed one . I ordered the Classic BLT( FYI has chipotle Mayo which gave it a spicy bite ) . Served with homemade chips . I also ordered the truffle Parmesan fries which could have used more truffle and would probably be best with more grated Parmesan and less of the shaved . We were on the last few bites of our food before our waitress came to check on us. The manager Kathleen checked on the customers frequently and helped everyone out cleaning up tables to keep the flow going !! I give her praise for helping the staff out that’s a great quality in a manager instead of some who stand around telling staff what needs to get done . I decided to give the bread pudding a try and I had to say it was pretty tasty could use a little more caramel 😋. I placed an order for the IL caprese longwich with fried chicken to go . Although the sandwich was pretty dig I was little disappointed at the fact I came home and saw one chicken strip on each side of the sandwich. The sandwich itself is $15 and if you want grilled or fried chicken it’s an extra $5 . All in all the food was pretty good but the service could...
Read moreWe were in the area for an appointment so we researched a bit and decided to stop in this establishment on a weekday. The menu looked intriguing with a variety of dishes to choose from which was the reason to give it a try. It was an early dinner, around 5 pm and we were the only diners outside of the several people at the bar. We ordered unsweetened iced tea and a Pepsi, this, unfortunately, wasn’t the only issue to our time spent there. The soda was flat, had no taste and the iced tea was barely brewed. No sweeteners were on the table and none was offered, but I drink it without any. We ordered the O’Brien, corned beef, and the Diablito “longwiches”. Both sandwiches must have sat in the window in the kitchen for a while, so much so that the corned beef was so dry it was like beef jerky. The sandwich wasn’t edible and was returned. The Diablito however had juicy grilled chicken breast, although cold, in otherwise a delicious combination of flavors. If the Diablito had been served hot and fresh of the kitchen it would have been an easy 5 star dish, but it was not to be. The homemade chips were crunchy, but could have used a bit more salt as it was barely seasoned. Our server was friendly and replaced the soda and had the inedible sandwich removed from our bill. Another meal was offered, but we declined. I believe it was a lack of attention on the server’s part that caused the sandwiches to be served cold and not on the kitchen. Does it deserve another chance, maybe, but we will not be the ones giving it. Such a shame, the menu had so much to offer, but if you can’t hit it out of the park on a slow day, I can only imagine how it would be on a busy...
