I have been enjoying Stoney River for years, and have always used it as a go to when entertaining clients and business associates. This evening was the most uncomfortable experience I’ve had in a long time, and it was extra disappointing, considering it was at my favorite place! I met a client on my way home from Vanderbilt and met her at the bar for dinner. We were greeted by “Chip” who was clearly bothered. We sat for 10 minutes, easy, before asking if we could please order a drink. He said he would get to it once he got us water, which had no ice- just flat water, unlike every other glass on the bar that was served. After we eventually placed our food order, he came back to me and asked if I would like my salad as a side or before my meal, and I said together would be lovely. Within 2 minutes I had a salad being served to me. I asked him if he did not just as me I wanted the salad with my meal, and this REALLY annoyed him. “What I ASKED was if you wanted it billed as the side for your MEAL.” I just stared at him and said I was sorry I misunderstood. When I come someplace and order a $50 filet, the charge for a side salad or not is NOT my concern. It was very tacky and his tone was very condescending. He never came back again to ask if we would like another drink, more ice less water, or so much as if we would be interested in desert before he threw our $100 billion at us and walked away. I have ZERO clue what was going on with this young man, but it didn’t have anything to do with me, and it was actually quite embarrassing after talking up your establishment to my guest, who was there for the first time. I thought Stoney River was one of the last places left where the service was always as finely consistent as the food, but Chip misses the mark. He needs to be working at Applebee’s with that pompous attitude. For two people who bust their butts for others all day, and coming from the hospital after a 12 hour shift to treat ourselves- it was a BAD CHOICE tonight. I am...
Read moreI used to come for work dinner and drinks all the time. It’s a great spot for happy hours- bourbons are very reasonably priced. Was a recurring patron for years. Unfortunately the quality and service has taken a downturn for a little while now. Had a very bad experience this past week. I sat at the bar - my usual choice anywhere - and ordered the 10 ounce filet medium rare with Mac and cheese. The food arrived fast and the steak looked properly cooked on the outside. I cut it in half and found the center to be cold and raw. It appeared to have been cooked over very high temps which cooked the outside faster than it should, leaving the inside undercooked. Not a big deal - it can happen. The bar staff was busy so it took me several minutes to get their attention. The steak and Mac and cheese got cold in the meantime. I explained the situation and the staff promptly took the steak back. A few minutes later I was served the same steak which I had cut into two pieces, so really I was served two pieces of a filet and a still cold Mac and cheese - which was just returned to me without even rehearing. The steak was now well done (since it was two smaller pieces). I had to send the steak back twice! I was surprised that a Steakhouse would serve a filet split in half instead of remaking a fresh steak and Mac and cheese. When I pointed to server that I was surprised to not have received a fresh steak and warm Mac and cheese he was not apologetic and told me it was policy to always serve back the same steak and if I wanted a fresh one, I should have asked for it when I sent it back. I responded that it didn’t seem like an ideal situation and he asked me how I would do it if I were running a steakhouse. Also thought the response was unnecessarily rude. I politely thanked him and asked for the check as I was not willing to wait for the third steak. Again this used to be a good spot but quality as service seems to be on a downhill path. Hope they can...
Read moreFirst, the service here was awesome! Chuck our waiter was professional and really congenial. When we told him this was our first visit he took extra time in explaining menu and special items, and answering our questions. Second, this restaurant has a pretty wide selection of good bourbans and whiskeys. And, a pretty good wine selection too. Prices for wine and alcohol are reasonable. Now on to our meals. My wife had the coffee cured filet. We have never tasted anything like it! It was so good and well cooked it's going to be my choice on our next visit! She accompanied it with the gouda mac and cheese. The shell pasta is a nice touch. The mac and cheese is rich and creamy. For my meal I had the New York Strip with au gratin potatoes. Wow, what a steak! Almost more than one person can eat. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My au gratin potatoes were melt in your mouth good! I almost forgot, we did split a house salad and were glad we did. The house salad here is more than enough for two people. The salad was made with really fresh ingredients. We both enjoyed the salad. We finished with a creme brulet that was absolutely amazing! The custard was of perfect consistency with fresh fruit on top. Side note: the bar here makes really good old fashioned's with your choice of whiskey and no up charges on the whiskey. My finisher was a nice glass of Taylor Fladgate tawny port. Since moving from Texas six months ago. Finding a good port in restaurants around Nashville is like, well let's see. You have a better chance of seeing Bigfoot. The ambiance of this restaurant coupled with the caliber if service and the quality of the food. Not to mention the pricing rivaled our last...
