I first had Fractured Prune over 15 years ago in Ocean City, during Beach Week of senior year at high school. Since then, I have remembered it as the best donut I've ever had. I've even tried finding a replacement, such as Duck Donuts, but nothing came close.
Randomly in 2025, I decided to search up Fractured Prune on Google Maps and was surprised to see that there was one about an hour away from me, which is better than driving 3 hours to Ocean City. So I decided to make the trip up to Frederick to see if Fractured Prune is as good as I remembered.
When I got there, the place seemed a little old and run-down. The employees weren't very polite or hospitable either, which other reviewers have noted. Neither of them greeted me when I walked in, and they were talking amongst themselves, standing 4-6 feet away from the counter while looking at me, which made it confusing to me whether anyone was going to take my order or not. After standing around for a minute, I asked one of the workers if he was taking my order or not before he even gave any indication that he was willing to take my order. Not a good start, but I went ahead and ordered some donuts anyway (though I was half considering just walking out).
I was starting to expect that the donuts wouldn't be as good as I remembered, but after taking a bite...wow. They were just as good as I remembered and still live up to the hype of the best donut I've ever had. It may not be everybody's cup of tea, but I love the overly-glazed, flavorful, soft type of donut.
Despite the poor customer service, I'm still giving this place 5 stars because the donuts are that damn good. I'd rather deal with cold employees and have amazing donuts once in a while than waiting upon a blue moon for me to decide to go up to Ocean City again. Plus, it makes me feel better about not leaving a tip, so I save $5-20...
Read moreBEWARE! Believe the bad reviews! This is my first restaurant review ever, but I had to say something. I am a lover of fresh baked goods and was looking for good fresh donuts in Frederick. This is NOT the place! The exterior signs and awnings are dilapidated and unprofessional, and the interior is filthy with furniture that looked to have been picked up off the side of the road. The dining area and kitchen appeared to be mostly gutted and was UNSANITARY. I ordered two breakfast burritos and 4 different donuts. The coffee menu is very limited with no decaf (which is what I drink). The donuts were NOT FRESH, they were premade at some point then re-dipped into hot grease so they appeared hot and fresh. Then they were glazed and topped by hand from metal bins all lined up with product that did not look fresh and none of which had covers to keep out foreign debris (dust or flies etc). The donuts were inedible! They were grease laden and tasted like OLD fry grease. They were heavy and stuck like glue to bottom of box, so they tore apart when trying to pick it up. I had a tiny bite of each flavor I purchased and they all tasted exactly the same—old grease covered by sweet. You couldn't taste the distinct flavors that SHOULD be present of the caramel Dulce de leche or mocha coffee cake at all. INEDIBLE and down right GROSS! I usually can’t pass up sweets of any kind, even bad stuff, but I couldn’t stomach these. The burritos were made using a microwave, which were spongy eggs, microwave bacon, cheese, and salsa poured directly from the jar wrapped in paper towel (like a teenager would make). I had one bite of the burrito and it went into the trash. I’m not exactly sure how this “restaurant” stays...
Read moreThe only decent thing about my experience at this Fractured Prune location were the donuts, as the customer service was absolutely atrocious. Also, as other reviewers have stated, this location has inflexible hours and closely ridiculously early. Initially when I walked in, I was not greeted but just stared upon by the owner/manager in duty. He was extremely rude and disrespectful the entire time. I watched him greet and willingly assist the other customers of a different race, but when it came time for meeting my needs, he was immensely nonchalant. He also became really impatient when I began asking for flavor advice. It was so distasteful. After paying for my donuts, my receipt was printed and the manager just left them on the counter, so I stood there baffled because I didn't know if my transaction was complete. He did not say thank you or give any type of indication that I was taken care of. As I sat at the table waiting for my order, I watched as the manager came from behind the counter to give the other customers their order, but when mine was ready, the girl who prepared them, simply slid them on the counter and just said "here you go." I was so taken aback by the direct targeting and lack of service that was distributed to me. However, since Frederick is known for its KKK and confederacy association, I was not surprised by my treatment as it was expected. I just felt like things would have been slightly different while patronizing an...
