COCKEYE COX’S CRAB COMPANY — Restaurant in Fredericksburg

I never take the time to write a review, but after yesterday’s crabs I couldn’t shake the feeling of this happening to someone else. A friend and I ordered 2 dozen of crabs 5/25/2024 around 4:30 pm. They were priced $60 a dozen and were suppose to be #1 large males. What we received were cold crabs that honestly seemed like they had been sitting . They WERE NOT FRESH! Our first mistake was leaving , but honestly we gave them a benefit of the doubt and thought that maybe mid to bottom of bag would be mostly warm hot ones and all large #1s. Something seemed off when we arrived 12 mins after placing the order. We waited an additional 25 mins (mind you no one was in the store) also us waiting so long we thought we would be receiving steamy hot crabs but we saw no steam when we left and it’s NO REFUNDS! Once we got home and dumped all the crabs, you could in fact tell they weren’t fresh even just by the seasoning looking like it had been cooked hours or even a day ago. And once you opened them they smelled of ammonia. I am sooo pissed because that’s over $100 gone. We called and the owner was soo nonchalant. He didn’t even offer a voucher for new fresh crabs . You can tell by the pics I have attached. The pics literally were taken as soon as we dumped them out. Tell me those def do not look fresh.

We ended up trashing them and going to decaturs (are usual spot) where the crabs were steamy and the seasoning sat beautifully on top. I would NEVER do...

I got a half of a bushel #1s from Cox's Crab. They felt pretty good when I picked them up, but I was really surprised when I got home to see that they were pretty small and definitely weren't freshly cooked. I eat crabs just about every weekend when they're in season and can100% tell the difference between a freshly steamed crab and reheated leftover crabs. These were definitely leftover crabs that had been reheated... I don't mind eating leftover crabs, but I surely wouldn't expect to pay top dollar/full price for them. Hopefully this is just a bad experience and not a regular practice. I cant imagine a seafood place that sells reheated food would last too long with so many other options in...

Ordered 1/2 bushel of #2 crabs...got 44 of the smallest crabs (they weren't even #3) with very little meat in them. Very hollow. Had about 2 or 3 dozen claws which don't help me. Spicing was good. Hated sharing with our company since they were so small and hollow. Everyone wanted to know where we got them and how much we paid. When I was little we use to go out at night to crab for babies like that to fry and eat like pop corn while watching tv. Yours use to be good. Don't know what has happened with you all.
