I visited Bombay Street Food recently and, on the front desk person's recommendation, tried their Paneer Panini Sandwich. It didn't disappoint! For $15, the portion size was decent and filling. They bake it for about 20 minutes, as she mentioned, which gave it a nice crispy texture.
The sandwich itself was flavorful -- crumbly paneer, grated Amul cheese, and a medley of beetroot, onion, cucumber, and tomato, all layered with multiple sauces and a sprinkle of chaat masala. My only minor complaint was the sweet chutney on one side, which was a bit overpowering in some bites, and perhaps a little less oil would have been nice. But hey, it's street food, so some indulgence is expected!
The takeout experience was smooth -- they packed it neatly in a brown compostable box, and it was ready on time.
They also had a tasting (or should I say "testing" as the board humorously read) for pani puri. I tried one, but it was pretty average, so I skipped ordering more.
The ambience was fairly basic, with an open kitchen setup that's a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, the food tasted fresh and crunchy, but the space could use some aesthetic improvements to elevate the dining experience.
Overall, I'm not sure why this place has a 2.5 star average. It definitely deserves at least 4 stars for the quality of food and friendly service. If you're in the area and craving some unique Indian flavors, the Paneer Panini is worth a try!
Good number of parking spots available in the lot for free, this place is located near Apni Mandi and other popular...
Read moreMy husband was really craving Indian street food so when we went shopping at apni Mandi, we decided to go here. It’s not a fancy or clean place - but we’re okay with this because we didn’t want to shell a lot for a quick meal. We ordered Shev batata puri, Bombay grilled sandwich, and keema paav. Paid $40 for it. More than I’d pay at a proper restaurant. Anyway- I thought, this is the Bay Area so they’re probably charging accordingly. The meal started off decent; the chaat was pretty good. Then the sandwich and kheema paav came in. They had a disclaimer on the menu saying it has egg in it too but I thought there may be some to bulk it up but I was woefully wrong. It was egg bhurji with a scattering of goat keema. It didn’t taste bad, but wasn’t good either. If I’m paying you 17 bucks for it, I want some meat. I was very disgruntled. My husbands sandwich didn’t have the green chutney typical of a Bombay sandwich. It wasn’t layered, lacked the essential Bombay sandwich veggies, and was all in all a sad excuse for a sandwich. So when we were deciding to go here, we hadn’t seen the ratings. Had we seen them, we’d stay away. I’m pretty sure the owner reads the reviews on here. When we were seated, we were the only ones there, yet there was no effort on the owners end to provide better service or make us like the food or place. It’s sad people like this want to get into the hospitality business. They really need to do something drastic if they want their...
Read moreWhere do I even begin? Possibly the worst place I've eaten in within the last year. We were a huge party of 13 with plenty of hungry teenagers excited about chole bhature and chicken frankies which we ordered a couple of. This place is a huge disappointment, way too overpriced for the quality of food & how it is served. Please take your money and go somewhere else! Chole was more oil than actual food. 0 taste, 0 salt only a handful of chole in every order and way too spicy even for adults. Be aware: bhaturas are not real bhaturas. They are tortillas that were deep-fried!! Who does that when you're running an Indian restaurant? Frankies are just a (questionable frozen paratha) made into a wrap with a few pieces of very dry chicken. Again, do not expect anything like an actual frankie form Mumbai/ Pune. Bombay sandwich was Ok, but way too measly for $10. I expected an actual 3 layered white bread sandwich with loads of grated Amul cheese. But they serve a very flat sandwich with 2 pieces of tiny white bread. Serveware: this is likely the lowest point of the whole experience. Poorest, thinnest quality paper plates & bowls and the cheapest sporks (yes sporks, not even separate forks & spoons) that are worse than you'd find in a...
