AYCE SUSHI 📍Sake2Me Sushi in Fremont, CA I wanted to check this place out to see what all the hype was about. As someone who doesn’t LOVE sushi or raw fish, I thought it was good but not amazing. It’s not something I’d find myself craving. The lunch pricing was worth it, but I don’t think I’d go back for dinner at full price. I also wish they had raw scallops, sweet shrimp, or uni! #sake2me #aycesushi #fremont #fremontcalifornia

Sake2Me: Room for Improvement in Execution Sake2Me positions itself as an all-you-can-eat sushi destination, but certain aspects of the dining experience warrant rectification. Here's a breakdown of areas for improvement: * Flavor Discrepancies: The presence of unexpected flavors, such as a coffee scent in the seaweed salad and an unidentified seasoning on the tuna capriccio, detracts from the intended taste profile of these dishes. * Tempura Technique: The excessively thick tempura batter on the soft shell crab masks the delicate texture of the softshell crab meat, compromising a key aspect of the dish. * Quality Inconsistency: Inconsistencies in the quality of the fish, specifically the narrow cuts and lack of distinct flavor, raise concerns about value proposition. * Menu Design Optimization: The red-dot system for premium items, while intended to highlight special offerings, might inadvertently steer diners towards pricier options that may not align with their preferences. Additionally, limitations on the number of red-dot items per person could create a sense of missed opportunity, especially if these are the most desired dishes. While the restaurant's staff exhibits commendable professionalism and dedication, addressing these shortcomings is crucial to creating a more consistently enjoyable dining experience.

I used to really enjoy this restaurant a few years back — the fish was fresh, the quality was there, and even the all-you-can-eat rules felt fair and reasonable. It was a spot I’d recommend to friends who wanted good sushi without feeling like corners were being cut. Unfortunately, my most recent visit was the complete opposite. The fish was bland and tasteless, a far cry from what it used to be. The rice was hard, dry, and completely lacking that subtle vinegar flavor that makes sushi rice enjoyable. Without it, every bite just fell flat. The appetizers didn’t help either — most were uninspired and poorly executed. The menu now feels focused more on quantity than quality, with heavy, flavorless rolls designed to fill you up rather than showcase fresh fish and balanced flavors. On top of that, the all-you-can-eat rules, which once felt fair, now come across as restrictive and designed to push customers toward lower-quality options. The only bright spot was the staff — they were friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout the meal. Unfortunately, good service alone doesn’t make up for disappointing food. What used to be a restaurant I recommended has now become one I wouldn’t return to.

If you have a big party with differing wants and tastes, DO NOT GO HERE

We had just driven 4 hours to come down for an appointment, and wanted to have a good dinner here. Our friend didn't want sushi, but was ready with cash in hand to pay for something else they had on the menu. Which is a very misleading menu and practice overall, because EVERYONE in your party MUST be on the same "course" or you can't even sit together. They can't even be in the restaurant! They don't tell you this at the door, and the menu has it at the top in 1point font type. They let you get super comfy just to wreck your experience.

I mean, from start to finish,

-The place smelled like a giant porta potty. The smell inside is really gross and is off-putting.

-The "manager" told our friend she had to leave and go elsewhere to eat, and she's sweet because she insisted we stay and try the place, while we were left trying to enjoy something of the dinner. But she wasn't even allowed to pay for something on the menu to stay with us.

-The food was really sub-par. I thought the sushi place where I live was the worst, these guys put them to shame. The rolls were a mess, the rice was really gluey and mushy, and the roll itself was comprised of 85% rice, and 15% fillings and toppings. The ratio is really disproportionately done.

-You have 90 minutes, and the menu is confusingly large. You're only allowed 2 items at a time per person, and you can only order 3 rounds. 6 items for 1 person in 90 minutes where the service was incredibly slow, and about 20-25 minutes between each round. ON A SLOW DAY.

-These guys turned a 4 hour drive with a great event and appointment, and ended it so poorly that we really should have walked out. I 100% regret eating here, and giving them my business. This was the worst experience of the day.

-2* for service because the girl that was there was trying her best to help us, but was shut down. Sadly though, she wasn't really good at remembering things. But she tried her best. Her talents would be better in another restaurant probably. The manager was just unprofessional and really looked like a kid with a title and 0 experience ever having been one.

-We should have listened to the others on here who rated it low as well. More importantly, we should have left when they said our friend couldn't enjoy dinner with us because she didn't want sushi, but...

I feel like this place can have great potential. The staffs seem very nice and ambiance gives out groups/bar vibes. However the main thing they should to focus on is their food and having ingredients in stock. When we came, we were asked what to drink but the server told us that half the fountain drinks were broken and there was no hot sake. As the server confused us when we were ordering. It took a while for us to make sense of their system. I think it would be nice if they asked the customers if they were new or returning customers so they can explain their ordering systems for their customers. This bummed us out at the beginning of the meal. The rest of the review will be about the food. I honestly think it was one of the few places I did not like sushi. They had very small portioning of nigiri, which is understandable from a business POV however the fish meat felt dry or still had some skin on it. I felt like when we ordered some of the sushi/nigiri and it didnt really taste like the descriptions. The pricing was $42 dollars for AYCE, however the quality was pretty low. I had to spit out my food twice, once from the fried squid and the second time was the "bomb" sushi roll. We thought that maybe we should order the simple food since it is a better chance of it turning out better, however that too was not the case. The cucumber salad was slices of cucumber over seaweed salad, it kind of shocked me since seaweed salad is usually not mixed in with the cucumber in my experience. We even tried it out with the edamame and those tastes like it was over boiled or that it was boiled prior then reboiled because the peas from it was overly mushy and no freshness to it. I would really recommend the restaurant to work on their menu (condensing it to the fan favorites/good quality of rolls or appetizers) and making sure that they have the supply of food for the items on the menu. Overall, I do hope they change up the system a little more to better...

I came across this AYCE sushi spot on TikTok, where the food looked amazing and was getting a lot of praise, so we decided to give it a try. Mind you, I drove 2 hours to come try this place. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype.

We visited on a Sunday around 3 PM. Although the restaurant wasn’t busy and there were plenty of empty tables, we still had to put our name on a waitlist via the tablet at the front. We waited about 10-15 minutes before being seated.

Once seated, a waitress handed us two menus and two order sheets, one for nigiri and one for the rest of the items. The 3 of us chose the premium AYCE option, which was $39.99 per person. After filling out our first round of selections, we waited about 15 minutes with no follow-up. We eventually had to flag the waitress down just to place our order.

Our first round included nigiri and tempura. The tempura wasn’t fresh, and the nigiri didn’t taste fresh either. It took a long time to place our second round of orders, and once again, we had to flag someone down, no one checked in on us the entire time. We order the yellowtail collar, and it never came out. The service was extremely slow and inattentive. Each round felt like a struggle just to get noticed.

My ratings: • Service: 1/5 • Food: 2/5 • Quality: 1/5

Sadly, this place was a letdown. I won’t...
