This is a lovely location for a Broiler and to be honest the place was quite comfortable and ambiance was quite nice. However, we did not have the best of experiences at this restaurant. I entered for dinner time and asked for a table of 6 which would include 2 kids and we would require high chairs. We were told the waiting would be around 35 mins for which we were okay with. 35 mins later our names were called and we were told we would get a booth. I mentioned we would need high chairs for the kids for which the host says I did not mention to her. The manager on the other side says there are no high chairs and that we’d have to wait 15-20 more mins since we had not mentioned it. I said I did express the requirements of high chairs for the kids to the hostess and it shouldn’t be my responsibility if she did not put in the correct note. We still kept patient and waited!!!
20 mins later our names are called and we get seated. We place our order for the kids first and request to have them come asap. Their meals arrive 25 mins later! Meanwhile we’ve ordered our appetizers and entrees. We started munching on the kids foods while waiting on the appetizers, which arrived 15 mins after the kids’. Then we waited 45 mins when the waiter comes and says sorry the order didn’t go in properly and they sent in another one. Another 20 mins goes by with the food arriving and the waiter tells us she apologizes for the delay and that desert was on the house. My fish came cold, and the burger was way undercooked (esp when we asked for medium cooked). The drinks were refilled after 3 times requesting for it. Nobody was around to check on the table!
We could not eat our dinner since the little ones were already exhausted and fussy from the long wait times. So we decided to pack the food. When we called the waiter for the take out boxes and check, she arrived in no time. And when we mentioned we wanted the desert to go, she disappeared. She came back with the check and once she got the payment she vanished.
We asked to speak to the manager on the way out and mentioned we were very disappointed with the experience and were wondering whether they were low staffed for treating us this way, for which he said no they were well staffed and it was not their fault for what happened to us. I told him we were here from 6 pm and it was currently 8:20pm which was almost 2.5 hours of just waiting and less food and fussy kids. And this person tells me I am lying and that the entirety of my visit was barely 1hr49 mins. He starts getting defensive and says I was wrong and he was right. Even when I showed him proof he denied and said “never mind I will get you your desert”. We didn’t wait for their “desert” and just walked off.
So from our experience with this place, even with it having a good rating we are not...
Read moreUpdated: So I paid a second visit to this establishment, reluctantly. Off gate we had a not so pleasant start. The hostess was luke warm at best. No greetings just a, how many. I get it sometimes we just have those days. I was promptly seated thats always a plus. I was seated for maybe a minute if that before someone swooped in with water. No more then 3 mis later my waitress came by with the refill and pleasantries. Throughout my whole lunch she was very attentive 7/5 🌟's. The food was WONDERFUL. Fish cooked perfectly, asparagus cooked perfectly, and the rice was also good. Oh my appetizer was delicious and that drink was nice. Smoky something can't remember the name atm. Well worth the $100 spent.
Ok here we go. The host was polite. I was seated promptly. I was even asked if I was ok with being seat in a tall chair. The waiter was prompt. Took my order and gave me my 1st and last glass of water, I didn't know this just yet. So I ordered a cup of Clam Chowder. It tasted slightly below average. Presentation to me speaks volumes. The cup of soup had spillage all on the cup. As if it was used to scoop the soup out of the can. The Bone in Ribeye was unevenly cooked. Slightly below average on taste. Very chewy as if the cow knew his final end game and was stressed. I know this is a seafood spot, but if its on your menu and your charging $45 the cooks should be proficient in preparing the dish. The mashed potatoes were dry, dehydrated, and lacking moisture. Last time I seen mashed potatoes that dry I was 12 trying to make instant add water potatoes for the 1st time. I wouldn't be surprised if instant mashed potatoes was used. The asparagus was WONDERFUL cooked perfectly. The only thing on my plate done right. Other than my single glass of water. My waiter checked on me twice, not once did he offer to refill my glass. Yes I could have easily asked, but why. Its the small things that separate average and good restaurants. Small things like making sure the dish is presentable, or making sure the patron isn't in need of something simple as water or any drink, heck even removing the three menus that were cluttering the the table. The Sourdough bread was exceptional. This was the most disappointing $70 dinner I have had so far. I will definitely come back to risk my taste buds again to check out a...
Read moreI am furious about how this was handled.
What went wrong Management handling and seating policy: We reserved a table for 4 at 6:00 PM and requested a quiet area. We arrived early (5:30 PM) and were seated in a corner with good lighting, which was fine. Then a staff member told us they needed to move because a party of 80 was coming. We declined since we had a reservation. Absolute disrespect from management: Shortly after, a manager insisted we must move—no please, no courtesy, just an order. He claimed we were “taking up” the table and that we had to leave by 7:00 PM, even though our reservation was for 6:00 PM. He offered no options, no apology, nothing. He treated us like the problem. Unapproved relocation: We were moved without our consent and placed near the restroom in a dark corner. No follow-up apology or goodwill gesture. Our plan to gather with friends was wrecked. No accountability: The manager who spoke to us did not return to apologize or try to fix the situation.
Why this is unacceptable We did everything right: reserved seating, arrived on time, and still were treated with disregard and abruptness. The lack of courtesy, explanation, and decency from management ruined what should have been a special night.
What should happen now A formal apology from management for the rude treatment and disruption. A goodwill gesture (complimentary appetizers/desserts, a round of drinks, or a discount) to address the disrespect. Clear improvements in reservations handling: Respect for reserved seating. Clear, courteous communication if a move is unavoidable. Personal follow-up from a manager to repair the relationship.
Bottom line Justice and the bar staff were excellent, and the food was great. But management’s handling of the seating disruption was abusive and unprofessional. If Market Broiler Fremont wants repeat customers, they must fix this...
