Exceptional. Truly exceptional.
I've visited Ike's three times now in the past three weeks and every sandwich has been stellar. These sandwiches aren't just food. They are truly an unforgettable experience. No matter how my day has been, these sandwiches have put joy into my heart. Making a bad day a good day. And a good day? a GREAT day.
(All of these sandwiches were loaded with the dirty sauce and veggies)
My first sandwich I had, the Jaymee was an incredible introductory sandwich. Fried chicken, yellow BBQ sauce, ranch, veggies, and pepper jack all packed into a nuclear explosion. Each bite had the experience of listening to Thunderstruck. Bold, in your face, and unforgettable. I felt so happy eating each bite to the point I even cried a bit with how beautiful and simple each flavor was. There's a level of love that's so simple that's put into this sandwich and was when I knew I was for sure going to come back in. This was the bar that had to be topped... and it did.
The Menage a Trois. Initially I didn't know why this French term was used as a name for this sandwich but I will explain in a second. The Menage comprises of a few key things. Succulent halal chicken with three sauces: honey mustard, BBQ sauce, and real honey. Then three cheeses: cheddar, swiss, and pepper jack. You see the pattern? Trois means three and the blend of these sauces and cheeses being held up by the bread and complimenting the halal chicken is something that not many people appreciate anymore... harmony. That's exactly what this sandwich brought. With the mention of harmony this song evokes a certain style of music, the Baroque style Bach used in his orchestras to create such a vivid symphony of Umami, sweet, and savory crescendos of goodness. Me personally my favorite sandwich. But what if there was a sandwich that was able to blend the complexity of the Menage a Trois with the boldness of the Jaymee?
You get the Beast Mode. A sandwich made up of fried chicken, bacon, cheddar, and Beast Mode sauce. The way they're brought evoked the sense of flavor complexity and blending the way the Menage did while having flavors so bold that would make the Jaymee proud. Everything came together so boldly while being complex enough to stand out from each other to be able to share the stage. To compare this to something, it's like listening to Beat it by Michael Jackson. Where pop and rock came together to make that perfect blend of high lyrical emotion while bold notes of Slash's guitar solo slice through. That's how I feel eating the Beast Mode. It taps into an emotional reservoir of what makes people feel great. With that said though, none of these sandwiches can be made without key factors. The people that make them and the atmosphere of the place itself.
I've come in these three times and never felt anything hostile from the hard working guys making these sandwiches. Just good songs in shop while watching them go to work making the sandwiches. These guys have always had smiles on their faces while serving and I wouldn't have it any other way. The design on the walls? So full of life and look. If Steph Curry endorses these sandwiches you bet I'm having myself a sandwich. The whole atmosphere in general feels like whenever I came home from a long day at school with my grandma waiting with fresh made soup and bread. Ike's makes me feel that at home with how good these sandwiches are and ultimately the passion and love put into the food. Keep working hard to serve us these masterpieces as sandwiches because I'm gonna make sure to try the whole menu! Coming...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIKE'S Sandwiches was really cool. The fun color scheme was super inviting as we glanced over the impressive menu. The sandwich names and ingredients really make this place unique, it is a tasteful mix of quality ingredients sure to impress mature tastebuds and down-to-earth signage and employees who made me feel really comfortable and confident about what I was ordering. To no surprise, the place was relatively busy for lunch, but we didn't mind waiting a few minutes for our food. The Dutch crunch bread was outstanding, as were the toppings. I normally don't eat any sauce on my sandwiches and was a little freaked out when I saw some upon inspection. I decided to be brave and I was not disappointed. It too, was outstanding. Although it was our first time at Ike's, there was something uniquely nostalgic about the joint that almost brought me back. It could have been the smell of the freshly baked bread.. either way, this place is definitely worth a try next time you are in Fresno and looking for a spot to grab a quick lunch. Don't forget the Zapp's potato chips (a sign the sandwich...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat food-Great service Short story- My wife and I (before we were married) ate at the Ikeās in the Castro back in 2010 and we thought it was amazing. We actually met Ike who came out to chat with our friend because she told them to write āSuperwomanā on her sandwich sack.
A few years later, my wife was working at a coffee shop up in Santa Rosa and an Ikeās moved it next door. We actually bought their sandwiches the day I proposed to her and we later asked if they could cater our wedding (they couldnāt).
We moved overseas for two years and when we came back we drove up to Alameda/Daly City to have Ikeās.
Since day one, we have ordered the same sandwiches: Barry B (turkey sandwich) and the Jerryās Big Meat (or All Meat, I cant ever remember).
At the Fresno location, both were excellent and tasted just as good as they have in all of the other locations for the past nine years. Moreover, the staff was very friendly, polite, and helpful. We are super excited to have Ikeās in Fresno and we highly recommend...
