I don’t live anywhere near this place but have heard great things about Hurts so I decided to stop by after taking my fiancé and his little brother out for a fun night out in the area.
From the moment we stepped in the door, our experience wasn’t the best. The guy working couldn’t be bothered to greet us and seemed extremely annoyed that we were even there. I tried giving him the benefit of the doubt because it was late (around 1am) and thought maybe he was tired, but they are a 24-hour donut shop and we were in and out within 10-15 mins. I ordered 8 donuts, paid (even tipped the guy at least $6+ despite his awful customer service), and we sat down and decided to each try 1 we had picked out. It wasn’t until this time I had realized that 6 out of the 8 donuts were cake donuts; which none of us are big fans of. The guy working didn't care enough to tell us that one of the cases is filled with only cake donuts. Again, first timers here so we had no idea and it’s not like it’s easy to tell when the donuts are covered with different toppings. Just another example of awful customer service.
After about 7-8 mins, we decided to leave and I figured I’d buy a couple regular donuts to take home (now that I knew which case had what). After going back up to the counter to order a couple more, the employee legitimately rolled his eyes at me when he went to grab a box. I assume he probably thinks I didn’t see him but I did and was honestly confused as to why our presence was annoying him so much. Maybe he shouldn’t work the overnight shift or maybe he just shouldn’t work in a customer service job period.
I was really disappointed that the customer service was so awful because I had high hopes for this place. I also feel like I wasted money on donuts that we wouldn’t have picked had we known one entire case was only cake donuts. We tried the cake donuts anyway and they were dry but the regular donuts were decent so there’s that I guess.
Their emergency donut vehicle will be in our city this Friday but after the experience we had, I unfortunately won’t be purchasing anything from Hurts again or visiting...
Read moreThe wait was long, about an hour, so I expected great and wonderful things. But, as I looked around, I noticed that the place was extremely filthy (terrible for a place serving food items). Trash on the floors (don't get me started on the bathroom), donut mixer was filthy, the counter tops had goo and crumbs on it and the bottom of the display rack had smudged up glass and the pans at the bottom were peppered with remnants of donuts past. Yes, it's busy, I get it....but hire someone to clean up behind people. Clean the glass, wipe the counter tops, clean the bloody machines. This is how salmonella starts. See photos attached.
In terms of the product itself, we ordered 3 dozen donuts to sample all of what they had available. Personally, if I wait in line for an hour or more, the product has to blow my socks off, which this did not do. Granted, I'm not a cake donut fan and 99% of these were cake donuts (the only one not cake was the glazed). They sounded interesting and looked creative, but the flavor profile didn't match the look for me. You would think German chocolate or Heath bar or m&m donuts would be legit....well....only sorta. They weren't bad, just not worth the time waiting. Krispy Kreme makes a better glazed donut (though not as large admittedly) and Dunkin' has more non-cake donut options.
Also, IF you want maple and bacon on a pastry, I suggest Black Walnut cafe in Frisco. They have (from time-to-time) maple bacon pastries and cinnamon roles.
With the flavor being average and the cleanliness factor of the place being suspect (bacteria breeding ground), I'm most likely going to steer clear of Hurts Donuts in the future, because I'm afraid of food poisoning...maybe that's why they call it hurts...because eventually it's gonna hurt you, right in...
Read moreI've wanted to give Hurts Donuts a try for awhile and figured my daughter's birthday breakfast would be the perfect time. To avoid any long lines, I went at 5:45am on a Sunday morning. I decided to select my own donuts (Dirty Dozen) based on appearance. Of the fully stocked case I chose the following donuts...
Mint Oreo (It does have mint flavor, but almost like toothpaste) Dirt worm (The gummy worm was the highlight) Little Timmy (Covered in sprinkles, but almost too much so) Flintstones (Missing the crunchy texture because of stale cereal) Bart Simpson (Covered in Butterfinger pieces) Red velvet (True to the flavor, decent enough) **Blueberry Streusel (Very sweet and delicious) Cookie Monster **Caramel apple (absolutely amazing...I literally want to eat a whole dozen of just these) Cotton candy (Cotton candy is literally added on top, but there is no difference in flavor Chocolate sprinkles (nothing special) *Cosmic brownie (Pretty good. Not sure how the donut was different compared to the other ones with chocolate cake, but I enjoyed this one more)
I also added a bonus donut - the maple bacon. This donut was any additional $3 and absolutely worth it. Loved the salty and sweet flavor!
I agree with the other reviews that suggest the yeast/fluffy donuts over the cake ones. The four out of thirteen donuts we sampled, I would definitely be back for again. I would also be interested in trying the other yeast donuts, but not the cake ones. The effort the employees here put into their donuts is the reason I'm leaving this as a four star instead of three...
