I've been wanting to try this place for a while. It takes effort for me to drag myself to this side of town. I looked at the hours and they close at 3 and then open at 5. Ok. If I head out now, I will arrive close to 2:15. I don't want to be that jerk but if they seat me and my friend gets there before me before 2:30 we'll go in. She did arrive. We came around and came through at 2:18. We stood for a few minutes before anyone even noticed we were there and then we were approached. The waitress told us last call will be in 10 mins. That's fine. We get seated. She dropped off the menus and left. When she came back asked if we were ready to order. We ordered the OC Galbi Korean style and added veggies. We really only used the lettuce part of it to wrap. So $6 for lettuce. You will get ban chan with this but no rice paper. There is a bowl of rice that comes with the veggie add on. The other two items were carbonara pasta and the tomato grapefruit burrata salad.
Everything what high quality from the galbi to the kim chi and place settings. Fresh ingredients, refreshing salad. The pasta I had seen in the previous posts had truffle, it was disappointing it doesn't look like they offer it anymore but it was still one of the best I've had. The truffle was more so for my friend and presentation purposes for me. Typically I do not like marinated meats. I only did it bc everyone recommended it. It was very flavorful. The drizzy was too sweet for me so I chose the pieces without as much across the meat. The arugula and onions paired well with the meat. I did like it to my surprise. While we were eating the waitress came and said they need to close the register and things out as restaurant is closing soon. She dropped off the check as she informed us. We grabbed payment and she took a bit to return to receive the payment. After we closed out with her we ate maybe less than 10 mins and she returns again informing us the restaurant closes at 3. We were kind of like yes, we've been told 4 times in the last 40 mins. She then said that's in 4 mins. Then asked if we would like boxes. This is where this went south for me. I have eaten at too many restaurants to count and even worked in the industry before. I do remember working and last minute ppl coming in and we would be unhappy because it meant we weren't leaving on time. But NEVER have I been where they're pushing you out in the middle of the meal. I could excuse the awkward moments and repetition but that is unacceptable. It rushed us out packing up four boxes of food. That tells you how far we got in through the meal. I don't usually give 4-5 star ratings and I was aiming towards 5 until that moment. I am extremely disappointed in the service. It wasn't like our waitress did not communicate with us the entire time. She had multiple opportunities to let us know we would be expected to leave the same time the restaurant is scheduled to close regardless how far we are in our meal.
Upon coming in she could have said last call is in ten and we close promptly at 3 and will need to close up shop. However the approach. Then when we ordered. She asked are you sure nothing else, this is last call. There was another opportunity to tell us. Then when bringing the bill. At the end her approach with boxes was giving... your time is up. Time to get out. If I knew that it was a hard stop we could've decided is we wanted to even sit down. I felt like we were cheated by not getting the full picture upfront. It's like you get 1000 credit as long as you commit for two years and you can't end early or cash it out. But all they tell you is you get 1000 credit and you're only finding out reading the fine print. I would come back but maybe not anytime soon. I'm hoping it was just the one waitress that was trying to rush out of work and not restaurant policy. We saw her sitting in her car outside too. I can't tell if she beat us out bc I didn't see her inside on our way out. We went today at 2:18 and out to the parking lor at 3:10. Do better. I'm still so appalled from...
Read moreI came to dPlace many times ever since they first opened. I recalled myself raving how impressed I was with the food and the environment. I started feeling the service wasn't on par with how they position their restaurant (both the atmosphere and the price point of their menu items) from my second last visit, which was last Saturday night when I came with three other friends to celebrate my birthday.
But tonight I was really upset with my dining experience when I spent the night with my son and husband. I wanted to treat my son to one of his favorite restaurants.
We put our name in at around 7pm, was told the wait would be 20 mins. We were not seated until after 7:40pm involving multiple check-in(s). Overall, it was a very disappointing dining experience. No one served us one of our three meals from the robots. We took food out ourselves. Asked for a cup of hot water twice but no one would bring it. I finally flagged another waitress who walked by when we are done with our meals and that's when she noted about the issue and brought the water in seconds (I'm really thankful for that as I needed it). My husband ordered medium cooked steak and it came out really raw and red like an ahi tuna dish.
I tried bringing up my dining experience to multiple staff as I walked out but none of them seemed to be sincere even though they apologized. They just didn't seem to know how to handle such situations. Their reactions made me feel that they thought I was just trying to create troubles for them. I asked for the manager, the receptionist said the manager wasn't here tonight and asked another higher up to talk to me. I stood there watching her waiting for food from the kitchen counter and she just wouldn't come. I felt disrespected and left the restaurant and later walked back in as I really felt bad for how our family was treated. I walked to the receptionist again and told her I needed to talk to that higher up and she said she already called her three times and I just had to wait until she had a minute. The conversation didn't go well as expected.
After I talked to several people, one girl finally seemed to be concerned about our dissatisfaction and to be concerned at least.
This place has so much potential but management will need to work on training their staff to keep up with the positioning of their brand.

Read moreI went with family for this place as we were looking for a near by last minute option for a steak dinner. The atmosphere of the place was kind of quiet and clean. The seating area is clean and tidy. Waitress are friendly. Even though all the above is importinag to enjoy a dinner, but it is not as important as the food, yeh? We ended up ordering fried calamir and truffle frensh fries for appetizers, which I will give, and all my family member as well, 2 stars as it is only fried food at the end and it is not a big deal. I ordered Rose, which is pasta with shrimp and tomato sauce. It was okay as a taste, but the proportions of the meal were awkward. The pasta is 5 times more than the portion of the shrimps, like 6-7 shrimps ( I can say medium size maybe if not small) for 2-3 cups of pasta with tomato sauce. The taste was acceptable but the portions are not. The rest of the family, 3 guys, one ordered New York steak and the two others each ordered ribeye steak. Also, the proportions of the mead is not relevant. As it came with a large roasted garlic head, about 2-3 table spoons of mash potato and the steak. I mean it is not like any other steak plate you may have in a regular American cuisine restaurant. ( even though it says Korean, but most of the dishes are mor American style) Here comes what make us all decided that it is not more that 3 stars, even though I thought I can put 2 ½ stars… Usually in any resturtn whtn you order a steak the plate will directly comes with a special sharp kinfe for cutting the steaks, but for dPlace, the knives they provided are very dull and it was hard for us to cut the meal easily and smoothly and enjoy the meal. When the waitress passed by she saw what difficulty we were going through not enjoying our meal she did not pay attention. When very frustrated with the knives, we asked her to bring a sharper knife, so she brought the knife that was supposed to accompany the steak plate. At that time the meat was cold and we ended up hating the place and decide for the 3 stars only, for the quietness and clearing of the place, not for the food. I don’t feel it worth the price which was not cheap. I hope my review will help you. One more thing that I did not get it, they put a tong with the silverware at the table, any idea? It looks like a chopsticks alternetive, but they don’t serve...
