I'm actually feeling pretty uncomfortable and disgusted about my experience tonight. When I got to this restaurant, I had high hopes for it. The decorations are absolutely beautiful. Coming to the restaurant on a Friday night, I expected to wait for a while for the table, but I did not expect to wait an hour for my food after it was ordered. Additionally, there were no silverware at the table until we asked and the water cups are like 4 oz in size, very very tiny. My chicken parmesan, while slightly burnt on the side had a gummy and tough meat in the middle. But looking past these things, at the end of our meal, there was a very loud woman, one of the other customers screaming in a very threatening manner right beside our table and beside our 6-year-old daughter. This was very scary and should not have been allowed to continue. They proceeded to let this lady scream for about 5 minutes without even asking her to leave. I listened to her complain about how long she had to wait for the food, and even though her entire meal and dessert was was made complimentary, she just would not stop screaming. I felt like this was handled very very unprofessionally. She should have been escorted out. After this display, she finally left and we noticed that the server was crying. My mother walked up to the server to try and talk to her and make her feel better and learned that she had been let go and would not be returning. That's terrible! Not her fault that the food has not been made quicker. And we don't know her personally, but this just left a very very bad taste in our mouth. This will not be the last time somebody will scream in their restaurant. They need to learn to handle this a lot better and and prepare the food a lot faster or I don't expect it will be open too much longer. Treat your staff members more fairly and please help the other guests to feel safe. This other obnoxious guest went overboard and really could have escalated and even...
Read morePartner heard about DaVinci's from a friend so we decided to give it a shot. I approached the restaurant ready to compare it to O Sole Mio, but after the meal I came to the conclusion that although they sit in the same "genre" they really are their own restaurants. Partner started with an "Italian margarita" which was well made and spirit forward. Then we moved to appetizers which were the fried calamari and the garlic bread.
The calamari was well fried and the garlic bread was delicious. You can tell the dough is made in house and fired in a wood fired oven. The garlic bread had a earthy tone which i figured out was blue cheese. I am normally not a blue cheese fan but in the context of the cheesy garlic bread it made perfect sense from a balance perspective. The calamari was well fried and came with a great marinara dipping sauce. my only critique is that i wish there were more calimari.
For our Entrees we got the Parma pizza and shrimp diavolo (sp?). The pizza came out hot and fresh. The proscuitto, cheese and argula were a great combination on the house made dough. it was oven baked to near perfection. The shrimp diavolo also came out shortly after. the sauce was nice and aromatic with decently cooked shrimp (6). The sauce was advertised to have crab meat in it and it delivered. The only critique on the entrees was i wish the shrimp diavolo came in a slightly bigger portion, mainly because it was delicious.
Overall we had a great experience at DaVinci's its a great option for Italian food in Gainesville not just a "good for...
Read moreI was able to come in and try a good amount of food with my bf. We split the items and had the Caesar salad, bruschetta, a strawberry mojito and Rigatoni al Pollo.
Caesar salad was simple and you could tell it was homemade . It was refreshing. The bruschetta was a perfect balance of fresh, vibrant flavors and satisfying textures. The tomatoes are bright, juicy, and bursting with natural sweetness. Every bite was crisp, refreshing, and packed with classic Italian flavors, garlicky and simple yet absolutely delicious.
The rigatoni al pollo was lacking chicken. Frankly we waited 20 min and it looked like they whipped it up last minute when we asked how long it would be to get our pasta . There were like 6 skinny strips of chicken and for $21 I just was left wanting more out of the sauce and protein portion. We kindly asked to get a pizza instead and they were able to grant our request.
They surely redeemed themselves with their Da Vinci pizza! It comes with Pomodoro sauce, fior di latte, pepperoni, peppadew peppers, fresh basil & hot honey. The fior de latte is the mozzarella cheese and it was so good.
This pizza is was absolute flavor bomb, balancing sweet, spicy, tangy, and creamy in every bite. The pepperoni was crispy at the edges, bringing that smoky, savory punch, while the peppadew peppers add a mild heat and a touch of fruity sweetness that cuts through the richness beautifully. And the hot honey? Absolute genius, adding just the right amount of sticky sweetness and heat to make every bite...
