Johnny's BBQ — Restaurant in Gainesville

This is my favorite place to eat in my hometown anytime I can get back home. Nothing but high praise for the restaurant and staff ! Always friendly staff and even better BBQ !! Don't forget to try their Banana Pudding ! Closest place I have found for Banana Pudding close to my Grandmothers. I don't eat everyone's Banana Pudding because no one's compare to my Grandmothers. But I will always get an 8oz pudding and always wanting more when it is gone ! Best BBQ place in N.E. Ga. ! Servings are appropriate for a meal no matter if your there for lunch or dinner. You walk away not full...its your own fault ! I also love the decor of old pictures of Gainesville from back in the day and the autographed photos of celebrities or government officials who have eaten at this establishment. Either the pork was insanely dehydrated, or they didn’t put more than 1 Tsp. Of sauce on that burger.

The fry's were crunchy in a stale overcooked way. (Maybe they refried old fry’s) or the fryer was up far too high for the standard time. Or its as basic as having old oil overused and burnt.

Moving on to the “sweet” tea, to put it as simply as possible it is THE most diluted sweet tea. It was like they put a residential spoonful of sugar and a shot of unsweetened tea into water 4 gallons of water.

Overall I feel insulted.

Although it did come out fast i would have enjoyed waiting for a GOOD meal. On the contrary that was like eating to spite my stomach...

Few things in this country, besides college football and politics, are as polarizing as barbecue. Johnny’s is what it is-good GEORGIA pork barbecue. It’s ain’t Texas beef burnt ends with onions and smoked sausage. It ain’t Kansas City. It ain’t Memphis dry rub ribs. And they ain’t trying to be any of the above. It’s just good old fashioned Georgia barbecue. Good quality lean meat with a mild hickory flavor. If your looking for Uber Mesquite smokiness, keep on driving west. You ain’t gonna find that here. Very reasonable prices, good selection of sauces, some of the best fries in recent memory, more food on the plate than you can eat, and nice folks...
