This was SO fun & different! I mean, inspired by the Vikings, who WOULDN'T want to throw axes, sipping their favorite wine/brew?! Lol. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! Our "axe-pert" was Kensy... she was OUTSTANDING! Very knowledgeable, helpful, super personable, & so much fun (characteristics that seemed to be the same across-the-board with ALL of their staff)! They give you demonstrations, tips, & correct you without making you feel "dumb". Kensy was "available" to guide us throughout our session, but also let us do our own thing, to where it felt comfortable like we were hanging out at home. The owners are nothing short of fantastic & you can tell they hand-picked genuine people that all LOVE what they do! It is great interactive fun (whether for a date-night, girls night out, work team-building, birthdays, whatever!), but JUST challenging enough that you can't seem to stop playing! Reasonable prices & clean friendly atmosphere! You can add a pizza to your order when you book if you wish. Otherwise, they serve beer, wine, hard seltzer, snacks, & will have food trucks available just outside! They even built their bars with upcycled wood from trees that fell during a hurricane! I can't say enough good things about this place! Highly recommend & already planning on going back in the next couple weeks with a few more of...
Read moreLots of fun. I was worried it might be unsafe if an axe bounced back or something, but that does not happen. They give a tutorial before you start and they have good safety precautions regarding the axes. The employee there was even nice enough to keep giving advice until we were able to consistently hit the target. He was a bit pushy as we were leaving about tipping but he deserved it so we gave him a tip.
I am deducting a star however because of poor COVID-19 precautions. I went with my fiancee and the place was mostly empty. There was only 1 other party there, but they chose to place us in the axe throwing lane right next to them when there were lots of other lanes. They tell guests they can remove their masks when they are in their own lane, but when our lane is right next to other guests, that is unsafe. They should have left at least a single lane gap and they should not be allowing guests to remove masks when they are next to other guests.
I also would like to note that despite being a bar, their hours aren't exactly great for drinking and I did not even see where the drinks were until I had...
Read moreIf you're looking for a unique and exciting night out in Gainesville, you should definitely check out The Hatchetbury! This axe throwing bar is a great place to go with a group of friends, and our experience there was made even better by the incredible skill and friendliness of our axe-pert, Axel. Even though none of us had ever thrown an axe before, Axel was able to teach us the proper technique and get us hitting our targets in no time. He was patient and encouraging, making the experience fun and enjoyable for everyone in our group. The atmosphere at The Hatchetbury is also top-notch. The space is clean and well-maintained, and the music and lighting add to the overall vibe of the place. It's clear that the owners take pride in their establishment and are committed to providing a great experience for their customers. Overall, we had an amazing time at The Hatchetbury and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and exciting night out in Gainesville. And if you're lucky enough to have Axel as your axe-pert, you're in for...
