4+ stars is a bit odd for this place. I'm pretty sure I ordered Chicken Katsu but what I received was chicken tenders with enough chicken to fill a large bucket from KFC. I'm pretty sure there were roughly enough chicken breasts from 3 dead chickens and in the same plate was some fried panko strips. I think the panko might have been on the chicken at some point however I'm not certain. I also can't verify if I received someone else's panko bread strips either as there seemed to have been a ratio issue between the breading and chicken. Oh, there was a small plastic cup of tonkatsu sauce that was tossed in the table near my chicken which was freshly taken from the fridge to table. I had a side of soba noodles which tasted like soba noodles which was a plus, but I wasn't too interested in the rice that we got as the person with me wasn't exactly fond of theirs. They ordered the chicken hibachi which seemed more like just stir fry chicken. We received a salad and soup with our orders too, yep salad at a sushi place. The salad was iceberg, roughly 1/16th of head, with a decent enough dressing. The soup was interesting. The server didn't say what it was but I was told maybe tofu, it was clear. However, to me it smelled like hot dog water and tasted mostly of cheese (slightly umami) so if I were to label it it would be cheese dog soup. Which, if that's what it was it was pretty legit. Then we left, sadly, yet fortunately, we didn't take...

Within site of the kitchen...not a good move. He dropped a couple of very dirty and broken menu's, asked what we wanted to drink. Promptly bringing a foamy cup of tea and a glass of hot water of which I asked for with lemon but arrived just a glass of hot water. We perused the large menu for a minute. I was almost going to leave since all I could see were the filthy walls and dirty dishes cart (I believe we might have been the first customers of the day) assuming the dishes were from the night before. Ordered tempura veggies and rangoons. The rangoons were good, the tempura veggies lacked any flavor what so ever. Our "lobster" roll was anything but lobster. A definate fishy smell..and whatever it was made with, looked discolored and old. I couldnt finish the roll. In our quest to find a good sushi place and after driving from Peoria to try Masa, we wont...
Read moreabsolutely unreal experience. i was going out on a cute date excited for a normal trip to masa (as i am a regular and local). we both try to order the chicken hibachi, “oh no chicken.” okay no chicken where most of your menu is chicken and we came at 12. we both get the steak, one medium, one well done. they were both cooked almost the exact same, rock solid. at least 30 seconds to chew for each bite and thats WITHOUT the completely raw vegetables. it was impossible to cut the huge chunks of broccoli and they didnt even give us a knife. every vegetable had a crunch and i had to basically knaw through it. after waiting almost 30 minutes for our cold, rock solid food, i ran to the bathroom. zero toilet paper on top of everything. lastly, i come back to the table to them filling our glasses HALFWAY with cherry coke after eating the whole meal without a refill. thank god i had to pay 60 dollars (not including tip) just for poor service, poor food, and 1 1/2 cherry...
