joy garden has been a favorite of mine since 2020. they recently got new ownership - the new owners are very nice and super kind. the food has definitely changed though with the new ownership. previously I wouldve rated the food 5 stars, but now I'd give it 2 stars. I got my usual twice recently - kung pao chicken and boiled dumplings. some of the boiled dumplings were cold and some were kinda warm. the kung pao chicken had only a few small pieces of chicken, was mostly large cut veggies, and had a lot less sauce than before. the sauce was also less spicy and flavorful. with the new ownership, food quality has definitely gone down while prices remain on the middle higher end. does it taste decent? yes. but for $18+ dollars id rather go to one of the chinese buffets in galesburg. hoping to see better food quality...
Read moreI feel kinda mean for posting this because of how nice the staff was, but I ordered carry out and it was awful.
I don’t know if I’ve been overexposed to better Chinese food, but this just tasted off!
I’ll give them credit for being better than one of the other two Chinese restaurants in Galesburg, but I’d rather travel all the way to Macomb and order Chinese from there than ever waste money here again.
Also, I feel like I was overcharged for my food. The only menu of theirs I could find online said their egg rolls were a dollar each, so I ordered 4 and it came out to $5.56 for those alone BEFORE tax! I didn’t even eat half of it before I got sick. Once again, lovely staff! Food didn’t...
Read moreMy neighbor and I decided to have Joy Garden for supper on my birthday. I was very disappointed. I am not at all impressed with the food being served by the new owners
The egg rolls were soggy and hard to eat. As I was waiting at the counter, I saw a large pan of egg rolls sitting in the kitchen. It appeared they were already cooked and stacked waiting to be served
The fortune cookies were inedible because they were so soggy or old, not sure which.
I had chicken chow mein and it had no flavor at all, even though I did add a small amount of soy sauce before I ate it.
I won't be going back. I would rather go to Hy-Vee, buy it from the food case and reheat it...
