Frida's Mexican grill — Restaurant in Garfield Township

I was leary about trying another Mexican restaurant in Michigan because they always disappoint me. Bland flavor is the norm in Northern Michigan. BUT WAIT... IT WAS DELICIOUS.

I ordered a Nachos Supreme which had flavorful beef, moist and tasty chicken, great tasting refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and shredded white cheese. I really enjoyed it! My husband ordered a beef Wet Burrito and loved it. His Coke and my Iced Tea were served in very nice thick glass glasses. Nice touch. You definitely get your money's worth in your food portions.

The atmosphere is classy. The tables have upholstered chairs. We sat in a booth, and you know booths, right, always too low of a seat. No! So nice to be at a proper level to the table. 🙃

The chips and salsa are $1.99 extra, which they tell you when they offer them.

Our waiter was very kind and attentive. The seating hostess was kind and smiley. Much appreciated because that is part of one's overall experience.

The ladies bathroom is large. A wheelchair or stroller could fit easily in there. It was clean and had nice decor'. The sink vanity and faucets were more of a home setting vs restaurant. Nice touch. There is even a full length mirror in there.

I would come here again and I will recommend that you come...

Place had 4 happy hour food and drink specials posted on a banner outside so we stopped . I couldn’t remember what they all were so I asked what the happy hour specials were and he said only big beer what kind you want? “That was not what it was” we ordered drinks he didn’t write it down and he screwed up the order he brought me my margarita on the rocks frozen. I said I ordered on the rocks he said you can only have that kind frozen. Something that should have been brought up when I ordered. No offer of exchange ect. We Ordered chimichangas and wings. He mage me show him chimichangas on the menu then asked if I wanted spicy wings hot or med I said med, he then asked if I wanted half hot and half med, no I want all med. food came out here is your wings were half hot half med.. Omg not what I ordered again. We had somewhere to be so couldn’t reorder. Wings were trash, breaded and soggy , chimichangas were decent though. Anyway totally wasted money, only able to eat a couple wings, wasn’t able to drink the margarita. Paid walked outside read happy hour banner wings and margaritas were on happy hour special which waiter apparently knew nothing about and we were not given prices on banner. Not sure...

The menu writing was small and overwhelming and difficult to read. There were way too many items to choose from. Was confused as to why a Mexican restaurant had sushi as well. Was asked if we wanted chips and salsa by the person seating us, to which we said yes (any Mexican place we've ever been too brought them out for free.) Whomever was supposed to bring them (was called over the radio by host) didn't bring anything. Ended up having the waiter bring them out. They were terrible. Salsa has little flavor and the chips were stale and flavorless. No idea that they would charge us for them, which is deceptive if you're offering them like most other Mexican places. We ended up changing our minds and decided not to get anything else. Charged $3 for a single coke and $2 for the chips plus they charged a random service fee without knowing if you're paying cash or card (we paid cash) ...for ya being at the table for less than 10 minutes, of which most of the time was spent waiting for the waiter to return for us to pay.
