I love Indian food, as such I gave this restaurant a second chance. I even took onto accou nt that it is mall food. Still, I cannot give this a higher rating.
The prices, for what is served are quite high. I tasted three of the curries ( butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and chicken curry) before choosing my 2-entree combo.
The butter chicken and chicken tikka masala tasted so similar, it didn't matter which I chose to accompany the chicken curry.
I saw that the combo came with pita bread so did not pay $8 for naan. I was then surprised when the man put the styrofoam container with rice, curries, and the half piece of pita (cut into thirds) into the microwave.
The flavors were not deep and rich as you would expect of good curry. The pita was too hot to eat after beung microwaved, then mushy once cooled, and the chicken so dry (from cooking too long then being microwaved I believe) that I actually choked on a piece of it.
I am so unhappy with this experience that I will not give them a third strike, they are simply out. This is a real shame because there really is no place else to sit and eat Indian food in...
Read moreZERO STAR! Absolutely the worst Indian food I’ve ever had in my life. I’m very fortunate enough to live in an area that has a very high Indian population; so I’ve had some of the best / most authentic Indian food in the whole state. This place is an absolute joke. For one they don’t follow their posted hours on their website or Google. Both their website and Google show they open at 11 AM, but they actually open at 11:30 AM. The staff here is also very unfriendly and lacks zero customer service skills. The food was extremely bland and did not taste anything at all like authentic Indian food whatsoever. Honestly the food at this location is one step above frozen Indian food that you can buy at the grocery store. Absolutely taste nothing like authentic Indian food at all. Highly recommend not trying this place. Very sad because this place can have so much potential being one of the only Indian food restaurants in town. Every single thing we ordered was absolutely terrible. We ended up throwing away the food after eating...
Read moreDisclaimer: I'm Indian (born and brought up in India). I appreciate that the owners took the initiative of bringing Indian food to Indian food deprived people of TVC. However, I'd rather have these people not have Indian options at all than have this cheap (not in terms of $) Indian food.
Gravies lack consistency and flavor, rice is dry, chicken is dry and rubbery and not soft, and I'm pretty sure they're just serving us stonefire's frozen Naans after smearing some butter on and heating them. My vegetarian friends rated their veg food a solid half star out of 5. I think the only decent thing they have on the menu is the chicken pakora.
To everyone who want some good Indian food, please drive down south to Grand rapids or Midland or Saginaw.
To the owners, thank you for trying, but no, get better and avoid shortcuts. Real Indian food needs time, effort, passion and determination. If you opened Taste of India just for $$ then you won't last. People will eventually realize that your food is below...
