REVISED 4/7/25 Named after the first ruling family of Poland, this family-owned Bergen County establishment actually has 2 locations in Garfield.
Piast Meats and Provision is an authentic Polish supermarket located off of River Drive. Their team is made up of professional butchers, bakers, and cooks laboring in their craft with care and passion. Customers like us often seek out their signature pierogi, cold cuts, stuffed cabbage, beef jerky, and hot entrees that are served on site.
My partner and I have been here numerous times and decided on takeout. We opted for Breaded Chicken Cutlet with Mashed Potatoes and Steamed Vegetables as well as Chicken Cutlet with Mushroom and Cheese accompanied by Pork Meatball, and Red Cabbage Salad.
The delicious and well-seasoned meal arrived home still hot, as it was sealed tightly with Saran Wrap. The portion size was generous and can easily serve two people at a reasonable price. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and bilingual.

Read moreIf you're a woman they give you much less portions in the dinners then men get they're very biased that way or misogynistic. This is especially the case with the middle-aged overweight women working there who also have a habit of whispering about customers as they're standing there watching them thinking that they don't know and then getting dirty looks by the people they whispered to. A man that came in after me had a bunch of food piled on his plate that was way above the top of the container but when a woman orders food they barely put enough to meet half an inch in the container. This happens over and over. They also drag their sausages/kielbasa on the floor as they carry them from the back to the store. I saw this at the Piast on River road. They will also switch the meat you want at the deli and when you get home it's a different cut of meat. When you pick something out they will grab something else but unless you're watching you won't notice until you...
Read moreGreat place to shop with daily fresh, different take-out dishes. I read what Celina Sofia wrote...it can't not pertain to THIS store! Just the opposite! VERY quick, friendly and helpful staff. I drive to this store over one hour, from different state actually, every five weeks or so, and I always buy a lot of "stuff", beer, bread, pastry etc...At NO time was there anyone rude or inattentive to me OR to any other customer. The shop is always full, I see many "Non-Polish" customers every time I am there. ALL the people working it that store are especially attentive and helpful to those who don't speak Polish OR English fluently, or are not familiar with Polish specialties. Everything is done in a very professional and respectful manner.YES, the store is relatively small and crowded at times, so if you have your kids with you extra attention might be needed. Maybe that was the real problem when...
