Disappointing Customer Service at La Mayoría – Clifton, NJ
I visited La Mayoría with my family, excited for a nice dinner, but the experience was far from welcoming. From the entrance, security was overly aggressive, demanding ID not only from me and my older son (which is understandable) but also from my 15-year-old, despite me stating his age. They also insisted on searching him, which is completely inappropriate for a minor.
Once inside, the staff continued to make us feel unwelcome. Despite having a reservation and our family already seated, the host questioned us as if we weren’t allowed in. The restaurant’s Valentine’s decorations was beautiful, and my young niece and nephew were simply taking pictures—without disrupting anything—yet we were asked to call them back to the table.
The service at the table was rushed. The waitress constantly interrupted, clearing plates while we were still eating, making it hard to enjoy our meal and socialize. The worst part? We were celebrating three birthdays and requested the staff to sing 1 Happy Birthday song while we ordered desserts. Initially, they agreed, only to return and inform us that they charge $30 per birthday because it includes a small cake and an “experience.” When they finally did the birthday song, they took back the crowns they had placed on the birthday guests’ heads immediately after singing—without even allowing a photo.
Adding to the frustration, my brother-in-law stepped out to the restroom and was asked for ID again just to return to our table—even though the restaurant was nearly empty!

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service I received at your establishment recently. If Google would allow me to rate the establishment, I would rate it zero stars. The experience was so disappointing that I have no intention of ever returning to your restaurant.
During my visit, I encountered an unacceptable level of service. I was asked to present my ID to pay with a credit card, and while I initially did not have a problem with this request, I was taken aback when the manager insisted on matching the exact signature on my ID for the payment. This requirement is unreasonable and impractical, especially considering the typical circumstances under which one might need to sign a receipt.
Furthermore, I found the prices of the items on the menu to be exorbitant. The total bill for a bucket of beers, a picada for two, and two regular cocktails amounted to $256.80, which I believe is vastly overpriced.
I feel compelled to warn others about the poor service and unreasonable policies at your establishment. I strongly advise people to reconsider dining at your restaurant, especially given the unnecessary inconvenience and the absurdity of being hassled over a signature.

Read moreI just arrived home from the La Mayoria restaurant in Clifton and had to immediately write a superior five star review!! The food is excellent and the presentation is fantastic. I have to say Juan was the best server I have had period in any establishment! The menu was written in Spanish and he took the time to explain each dish on the menu in detail. He has the most gracious and pleasant personality and made sure our dining experience was stellar!! My friend had a New York Strip steak and it was prepared and grilled exactly as ordered. Perfection! Two sides are offered with the dinner and the side salad was huge and delicious! If you live in Clifton or Passaic please do yourself a favor and try this beautiful restaurant. There is no need to travel to Wayne or Paramus to dine beautifully. Trust me on this ! I don’t cook and have gone to every restaurant within 15 miles of Clifton and was blown away with this place👍Now number 1 on my list!! They just opened a few days ago and I was anxious to get in there! Definitely will be there weekly and if you get Juan as your server you just won the lottery. Go and enjoy.
