Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant — Restaurant in Garner

My cousin brought me a shrimp patty from this restaurant over the weekend. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to go back to that restaurant and order dinner for the family tonight.

I went in person and was hoping to try their jerk chicken but they were out of it. Instead I ordered six shrimp patties, one small curry chicken plate, one small curry shrimp plate, and one side order of mac & cheese. The cashier was very professional, patient, and friendly. As she figured out it was my very first time at this restaurant, she allowed me space to peruse the menu before ordering.

The restaurant is kept very clean and everything smells wonderful. It’s a nice little spot. The restaurant closes at 8 PM on Fridays and by the time I made it over to the restaurant, it was already 7:15 PM. They had already started cleaning up, but was more than happy to provide me with service. The chairs were sitting on top of the tables. I am not sure if this is a safety mechanism to not allow seating during Covid or if this was done as part of the cleanup activities since they were getting ready to close.

Once my order was ready, I returned home with the food so that my family and I could have dinner. I was very pleased with the portions. Everything looked and smelled delicious.

Being a native from the Caribbean, I am very particular about my rice and peas and the seasoning and texture of food. Every item ordered was great! The rice and peas was made just how I like it. The curry shrimp and the curry chicken had an authentic curry taste. The chicken was also very tender and moist. The Mac and cheese was tasty and well put together.

The patties were made differently to how we make it in the Virgin Islands, but it was very flavorful, and the shell was soft and flaky. We enjoyed it.

I had a great first experience with this restaurant. We enjoyed everything that was ordered and the customer service was on point as well. I will definitely visit again.

February 18, 2023 Update:

I stopped by this Golden Krust restaurant again today to see if I could try their jerk chicken plate. I ordered one large jerk chicken plate to go. I did not get any gravy or anything on it. They did provide two containers of jerk sauce though.

On this visit, I observed that the table and chairs, were set out for customers to sit and eat. I guess during my first visit when I got there about 45 minutes before closing time, they had already started to clean up and prepare the restaurant for closure for the night.

I enjoyed the jerk chicken plate. Everything was flavorful, and the chicken had great texture. The jerk chicken had the right amount of pepper spice but could’ve used a little more seasoning on the meat itself. When used with the jerk chicken sauce, it gave the chicken meat more flavor. I’m extremely disappointed with the service I received today at Golden Krust in Garner. My family and I have been loyal patrons of Golden Krust since its inception—we’ve supported locations in New York and Durham and were genuinely excited when the Garner location opened.

We’ve always appreciated the warm, professional service from Charmaine, the owner, who has consistently made us feel welcome and valued. Unfortunately, today’s experience was the complete opposite.

We visited to inquire about catering options for my daughter’s upcoming graduation party—an order that would have totaled around $800 to serve 50–60 guests. We were not disputing pricing at all; we were simply seeking clarity on what pan sizes or combinations would be appropriate to feed our guests. A young man initially tried to assist, but before we could get the information we needed, a young woman abruptly intervened.

Her attitude was rude, dismissive, and demeaning—not just to me, but also to my mother—right in front of my daughter. It was embarrassing and completely unprofessional. Rather than helping us make an informed decision, she made us feel like our questions were a burden and that our business didn’t matter.

Her behavior is a poor reflection of the Golden Krust brand and starkly contrasts with the service Charmaine is known for. As longtime supporters of this business, it’s incredibly disappointing to be treated so poorly—especially when we came ready to place a large catering order. My, My, My, this place is Phenomenal in my own personal opinion and experience. Today on Mother’s Day after church hubby said anything I wanted and it was oxtails which by the way he can do without😁 however, they are my favorite and my palate wanted them so I obliged. First time there, love the atmosphere, the staff busy but attentive and very professional and cleanliness was a 5 star upon opening the door cause I do food and cleaning……. I usually frequent another spot but this is my place for Caribbean now. I like, I like, I love. Thank you all who worked on Mother’s Day in this establishment because you and the food made My Day❤️! UPDATE —-07/02/2024 Well, just like most new restaurants that start off with amazing good food with seasonings just right, this has finally happened here after visiting quite frequently. I love their oxtails the way they were and for some odd reason on this date when 4 orders were placed for family we all come to the conclusion that they were very salty and kind of hard to eat and enjoy, I even washed off the gravy they came in to see if that would help but not much, I just wish they would leave them alone and not try anything new with seasonings cause if the next order is salty, I’ll be finding another location to get my oxtails from.
