I can't comment on the interior of the restaurant but based on my patio experience, I would assume it is a good experience.
My son and I entered through the patio gate with our two young dogs after a server kindly opened it up for us to enter.
The patio is relatively small and split into two sections by a few tall trees, which part in the middle as an entry way from one side to the other.
I would guess there are about 8-10 tables combined.
Everything was clean, music was playing at just the right volume for good background noise - parties could hear themselves talking without having to raise voices. And, while a small area as a whole, there is plenty of space between tables to allow for intimacy and avoid eavesdropping.
Within a couple minutes after seating - plenty of shaded umbrella coverage by the way - the server who opened the patio gate brought us a water bowl for each dog, along with menus. It was pretty hot. 87 degrees and 80-something humidity, so that was a nice way to be treated right off the bat.
She acknowledged the dogs without being kiss-ass or over the top and then quickly got our drinks. She was friendly in just the right way throughout our time there.
The menu wasn't large but it had just the right number of items for each category of options. I always find that restaurants who keep it simple tend to have better quality food and that proved true here as well.
Our server, the same one mentioned above, checked in on us frequently during our short wait on food. This was impressive because she just finished up a party of 6-8 on the opposite end the patio, had another two tables, and then got three more after us. I could see her hustling to everyone equally. And, with it being early afternoon and the restaurant being relatively small, I wouldn't be surprised if she had tables inside as well.
My son and I each ordered taco variations which were presented nicely and decent size. We each rated them about and 8/10. For me, that's pretty good as I hold restaurants to a high standard. They were also served with housemade tortilla chips. These were awesome! I've never had any like these before.
They were a smooth texture, visually, as compared for your traditional chips made from fried flour tortillas. They were slightly crispy at certain areas and had a soft texture to bite into. Not quite bread, not quite chip. I'd prefer this be served at all restaurants, hands down.
This was a great experience and I'd definitely go back. And, for $25 total excluding tip, this is...
Read moreGreat food, horrible service! A group of seven friends went to Two Travelers for a quick bite and drink. Our table of seven was sat a six top table and our friend sitting at an adjacent table was rudely told he “needed to pull a chair up because they were really busy and he was taking up a whole table.” 5 of the 7 people we were with were servers, and we were all appalled with the service. Took our server 15 minutes to get waters, then another 15 minutes for cocktails where she forgot one persons drink and only when reminded said they were out of it. Didn’t return to take our food order for another 20 minutes. We waited about 25 minutes for food and it was busy so we were definitely understanding, but when our food came we were disappointed. The food that came was great, but she completely forgot one persons entree and did not even apologize. We said to forget about it which she again didn’t offer any solutions or even an apology. She did not return once to check on our food. When she eventually came we explained we were in a rush and politely asked for the check when she had time where she said we needed to “be patient.” After waiting another 10 minutes for checks she comes up to the table and tells us verbatim we need to just put it on one check and venmo each other because it would take 15 minutes to split the check (3 ways.) We asked if the computer system was down and she said no they were just busy. She could’ve split our checks within the time of that conversation. We said we really didn’t want to do that and we were told we had no choice so we agreed. After 5 MORE minutes we’re brought our whole check, and were told she “took off a couple drinks for inconvenience.” We handed her a card right away as by this point we were already late. Come to see the check and find out she did not take off any drinks, but also charged us for two sauces that were never brought out AND the drink they were out of. She was so rude and honestly one of the worst servers I’ve ever had. Maybe go and sit at the bar, or get take out. It’s a shame a restaurant with good food like this will be ruined by the reputation of...
Read moreMy aunt and I visited Two Travelers Tavern after a long day with the rest of the family. The ambience is upscale but relaxed — and the music is trendy (Billie Eillish was playing the night we visited), but it was t obnoxious at all.
They only sell wine by the bottle, which I was initially disappointed about but it actually was an excellent value. You pick your wine, the bartender pours you and your host a glass, and they keep an eye out for when to ask if you’d like a refill. So overall, very friendly service.
The only small downside was the food. I ordered the Mac-and-Cheese... and for that price I’ve gotten much bigger portions (at least double) while I lived in NYC. I asked for chicken on the side but when I go back next time I’ll probably just ask for double Mac, no chicken.
On the other hand, while Two Travelers has gotten some bad reviews during their soft opening (it’s still a newer restaurant), the tacos have apparently gotten much better since the soft opening. My aunt got chicken tacos and really enjoyed them this time (she was also there for the soft opening).
Overall, the service was excellent, the drinks were good (small but quality wine list). My only wish is that the portions were a tad bigger, since it doesn’t make sense to charge NYC prices for portions that are so small.
Will definitely go back, and I’d highly recommend. It’s not a party place, just very mellow...
