Another Broken Egg Cafe — Restaurant in Georgia

Great food and ambiance, but the manager, a young black man, for the second time of 4 times I have dined there, treated us with ignorance and ill repute. The first incident occured after a young waitress, a 19 year old kid called me baby. I am a 58 year old woman. I explained to her, that that term is offensive to, especially a seasoned gray haired black woman who has lived and seen some things, and she adjusted her language in my regard, I never yelled, just informed her of the proper way to address me and why. She seemed to have received my admonition well. She also must have informed her manager of the exchange, that no one even heard but the table beside us, and she continued service with a pleasant attitude. However, the black manager came over to tell me that she was one of their best employees they have, after her mistake and approached me as if it were me, not letting a child young enough to be my grandchild, speak to me any kind of way, was in the right and I in the wrong. Today, another young girl, gave us decent service, but forgot to bring me a mimosa that I ordered with my food. A young white curly haired man of his early 20s, who picked up our dishes, handled my response, to his, how was everying, and my response informing I never got my mimosa, in an awesomely pleasant manner, and said, sorry ma'me, but the next time you come, come my section, I will be sure to get you that mimosa promptly. Probably also in forming his manager of that exchange which is possibly their protocol, the same ignorant grown black manager came over and slammed a mimosa on the table and said he was serving me after he was supposed to as if he was doing us a favor, though his waitress is the one who forgot my clear order made when our food arrived. He also spoke to us with disrespect and disdain and in a manner I know in my soul, that he does not speak to his white customers. We of course left the mimosa untouched, because it was delivered in that rude manner, and our brunch was already over and dishes gone. I did not want it anymore, and this lack of appropriateness of a manger at an establishment in my home town, this time, has this immediate and accurate review. His upper management will be hearing from me also, because no matter what race or age you are in my hometown of Warner Robins, we DO NOT, treat anyone in such a rude manner. I am gonna encourage this very nice and very welcome resturaunt's upper management to either fire this improperly raised, must-have-been-trained-in-some-hood, unedified "manager", or at least remove him from management from this location in Warner Robins, GA, because his behavior, twice, has now prompted me to take action, here and otherwise. We can start with reporting his on self admission that he violated their distribution license. I will say, all of the young people in that space combined, even the one who forgot the mimosa and the one who apparently did not know that you don't call an elder woman "baby", are all better, more coachable and future management material than this middle aged black man who does not know, who has been rude to, and attempted to demean twice. He should have asked somebody. Then he would know, Charles and Edna's child is not the one to sit back and do nothing about ignorance and demeaning acts purpitrated against anyone, let alone herself. I am an early riser by nature. Coincidentally (and conveniently) breakfast happens to be my favorite food group. While the fast food/fast casual Sunday morning breakfast choices in Warner Robins, GA are bountiful, GOOD breakfast options seem to a minority. Today, Another Broken Egg solidified their spot for me on that short list. Let’s talk about the 3 categories for which Google requests ratings: Atmosphere, Food, & Service, shall we?

I pulled into the shopping plaza at 7:40am & noticed the parking lot was clean and in good repair. Most people wouldn’t say they “notice” this, but I’d be willing to bet they would notice if it wasn’t. As I opened the restaurant’s front door, I was hit by a double whammy – the delicious aroma of cooking food & the warm greeting (with a great smile) of the host. Nice start! Despite having been open less than an hour, there were 3-4 tables in the restaurant and 3 people seated at my destination, the bar top. The lighting was ideal, not so bright as to require SPF 50, seemingly the case in many breakfast/brunch-centric establishments, but easy on the eyes while menu items & restaurant signage were still readable. The décor consisted of subtle hues combined with tasteful accents, making me feel at home in my khaki shorts and Hey Dudes while patrons in dressier duds seemed to fit right in as well.

I sat in a barstool as the bartender was checking on guests with newly delivered meals, then he turned to greet me with the second smile in under a minute of being in the door. He immediately gave me his name, Kelly, and suggested a specialty coffee. I opted for their “Barista Brew” medium-roast, which bartender/mind-reader Kelly brought promptly, along with a glass of water that I forgot to order but definitely meant to. Kelly got some items for his other bar guests & returned to check on my menu item decision making progress. I deferred to Kelly’s personal palate & asked what he liked. He first suggested the Southern Chicken Sandwich, grilled. I explained my propensity for breakfast fare & Kelly led me to the “Ultimate Breakfast Sandwich.” My favorite food category after breakfast is simply…sandwiches. How did mind-reader Kelly know?? His Amazon Alexa-ish anticipatory qualities aside, he placed my order, refilled my coffee & water, greeted new guests, cashed out departing guests, and brought out my order after just a few minutes.

Before we talk about the sandwich, I have to tell you this – the whole dang restaurant was smiling!! Kelly still had a smile on his face; the host, the servers, the back-of-house crew I could see through the swinging doors, even the other customers all had easy smiles spread across their faces! Okay, 1 lady was not smiling as she was leaving, but I attribute that to the crazy thunderstorm outside that she had to run through to get to her car. How is the entire staff smiling at 8:00am on a Sunday?!? Our friendly neighborhood mind-reader gave me the answer before I left, without me ever having asked the question. Absolutely Disastrous Dining Experience! Avoid at All Costs! This was, without a doubt, one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. From start to finish, the service was abysmal and the lack of care and professionalism was frankly shocking. We were seated promptly enough, but then proceeded to wait an unacceptable amount of time for our waitress to even acknowledge us and take our drink order. Once our drinks finally arrived and our food order was placed, the waiting game continued. Our waitress was incredibly inattentive. I am a slow coffee drinker, yet I managed to completely finish my entire cup and then sat for another ten minutes trying to get her attention for a refill. Every time she walked in our general direction, she actively turned her back and completely ignored us. It was baffling. Then came the main event of this terrible experience: the food delivery. Our waitress, in a moment of utter carelessness, managed to knock over an entire glass of water directly onto my lap. What followed was even more unbelievable. She simply walked away. No apology, no acknowledgment, nothing. My wife had to ask me if I had missed her apology, and I realized with disbelief that she hadn't said a single word. Eventually, someone came to wipe down the table and the seat, but I was left completely soaked. Trying to eat an omelette while feeling like I had just taken a swim is not my idea of a pleasant meal. The sheer discomfort and embarrassment of sitting there drenched was awful. You would think that after such a significant mishap, some sort of apology or attempt to rectify the situation would be made. Nope. Not a single word from our waitress or any member of management. Even when she finally dropped off the check, there was no apology, no manager had come by to address the incident, and certainly no discount was offered for my thoroughly unpleasant and damp dining experience. To top it all off, I then had to walk through the entire restaurant with my pants looking like I had completely wet myself. The embarrassment was truly the cherry on top of this awful sundae. Seriously, this establishment needs a serious overhaul in their customer service. The lack of attention, the complete disregard for a customer who was literally soaked by their staff, and the absence of any attempt to apologize or compensate for such a terrible experience is simply unacceptable.
