Okay! I just have to tell you how EXCITED I am! I was driving past BBQ Masters today and realized it was open. Though I was heading to another restaurant I instantly changed my plans and pulled into the parking lot. I promise you, I have been wanting to eat here for months and I could never catch them open. Well, thank you to the Foodie Fairy Godmother who was on my side today. LoL.
Walking in, the location is very clean and has a simple design. Walking up to the counter I was pleasantly surprised as I noticed that there’s no staff, nope. You go up to the tablet and place your order. Yessssssssssss!!! I love self-serve kiosks. As I scrolled through the selections, the food pictures had me excited. I decided on the Half-Slab Plate with Beans and Collards as my sides.
Once my order was ready, the chef himself came out, called my name, and delivered my plate. Let me say this, the visual presentation alone increased my hunger by 100,000. LoL!!!!
Let’s talk about food!
The ribs were tender and juicy. They were well seasoned and falling off the bone. Oh my gosh. I had the sauce put on my meat and I am so happy I did. The sauce was a perfect pairing to the meat. The smokiness of the meat and the creamy medium blend of the sauce. As one who enjoys good BBQ, these ribs melt on my tongue and soothe my entire soul. Oh yes, this is a half rack done RIGHT!!!!!
The beans were smooth, not too sweet, not too spicy, simple ingredients which allows for the natural bean flavor to remain prominent. Also, as the beans aren’t overrun by added sauce or spices they go well with the ribs as a side.
The collards hit the spot. Ok, listen. They were tender, yet had a slight veggie crunch to them. They weren’t over seasoned. Nor were they over saturated in vinegar. You can tell that these greens aren’t out of a can. These are fresh greens, cut with love, and cooked with an understanding of what a good green should be.
Lastly, the Garlic Bread. Yep. There’s a slice of Texas Toast Garlic Bread that comes with the plate. It is soft on one side and perfectly grilled on the other. The level of garlic is spot on to enhance the flavor of the entire plate as a whole. Listen, this bread addition was decided based on the understanding of BBQ. Whoever added this to the plate understood the palate enough to understand what it takes to please the taste buds.
It goes without saying that I will be back. For the way this food tastes, I will happily continue to play cat and mouse to catch BBQ Masters when they are...
Read moreMy mom and I tried the bbq-masters on Old National Hwy, for the first time on Saturday, September 30th, 2023 @ 3:02pm. We were greeted by a man named (Chef). His appearance was deplorable, as we walked closer he was not neatly groomed. He also didn’t look sanitary, his right hand, had a black glove on it and his left hand, was under his apron, scratching his belly. He took out his left hand and his nails were quit dirty. The customer service was terrible. They have the no paper menus, only a touch computer, which was not easy to follow, due to misrepresentation. They had pictures of food that they did not carry, which we thought was appalling. The Chef, disappeared several times and he came out to the front after we were having problems with the computer and misleading advertisements. We eventually ordered the Sausage Dinner, which lead us to believe that they served fries and that peppers and onions came with it. But to our surprise he stated that it was just a picture and we would have to pay extra for peppers and onions @ $2.25 additional for each meal with baked beans. He brought our food out with the same glove on right hand and his dirty left hand. We could only pray that he didn’t spit, or do something else to our food. We took our food home and after the 1st bite , we immediately started feeling ill. My mom and I both have had diarrhea for the past couple of days. The baked beans were horrible they looked like they had been poured out of can, tasting like beans and franks! The peppers and onions were not sautéed or on the grill, for what we paid it was a waste. We will no longer patron this restaurant, and warn others about it. Also before we ordered I had asked the (Chef), why we should eat here and he pointed to a sign on the wall, that said 20 years of winning sauce. That definitely didn’t tell me how the food tasted, I should’ve followed my mind and left instead of trying to support a black business, never going back, never,...
Read moreWhen this place first opened in late 2023 the food was excellent. The owner was outside on the smoker and the ribs were fresh. The greens were tasty the beans were a flop. I went back February 2, 2024, and finally they were open again from being closed for over a month. The employees were people I never seen before and were rude, poor customer service. The menu items were different and they do not have the greens or Mac and cheese. They added fries to the menu, you don’t eat fries with ribs!! And if you do make sure they are fresh and good potato. I asked the lady behind the desk are the ribs going to be fresh and she said yes they were cooked today with an attitude. The ribs were not freshly cooked they were probably a day or 2 old. They were burnt and hard the sauce was not the same as my first visit. They didn’t put my potato salad in my bag. The peach drink was too sweet could not drink it without adding water. Just horrible. I love supporting black businesses but this was a complete let down and it seems like they just want the money. I believe the owner must have sold the business or went in on the business with someone else. I will it be going back and I’m pretty sure a lot of people will not as well. Save your money or you will lose out...
