This is my personal experience. I'm a well-known chef. Seldom do I find time to get away alone and dine.
Wednesday, October 18th Was craving fresh oysters in a big way. I stopped in and sat at the bar, and I ordered a dozen raw oysters and fried calamari.
The oysters were outstanding, clean tasting, professionally shucked (no cuts into the flesh), beyond fresh, and sourced from cold waters—slight brine, which was not over-dominating and to my satisfaction.
I was tempted to order another dozen and ordered some fried calamari instead. Calamari was battered very nicely, Fried perfectly golden(the easiest things to make are often screwed up). The kitchen staff nailed it.
My only “comment “is that the breading lacked seasoning. I added a touch of salt and squeezed lemon over it. It was served with Thai chili sauce. It's generic but always good.
Only personally, I was craving something else to it. Maybe fried spinach, pepperoncini, or a not-so-generic sauce, again, only a personal thing.
I grew up on Calamari. I love the fact that it was both tubes and tentacles. Most places stay away from the tentacles; they, to me, make the dish.
The owner, Brad, was behind the bar; it was great to see him interact with his guests. It says a lot when an owner or a chef spends time speaking to the customers.
I overheard him state to some regulars he had fresh clam strips coming in. These are a very personal favorite.
As a young kid growing up, we used to catch clams; once we got home, my dad would make clam strips, chowder, and stuffed clams. Great memories.
This was my first time sitting at the bar alone during dinner. My female bartender (I missed her name) was great. As I'm short, I loved watching her, like me, struggle to reach some items. She was personable caring, and added to my experience.
I will share it has a local feel to it. Most of the people on this particular Wednesday evening knew each other, and it was like watching a cheers episode.
The last time I was at the bar with my partner, we had gumbo, fried shrimp, a Po boy sandwich, and fresh oysters; all were great.
Foods are done simply using fresh ingredients with nothing over the top.
As a chef, my personal style is six ingredients or less with nothing but the best and freshest ingredients.
Based on the items I’ve had here thus far that's what they do. Just an opinion, but they seem to know their place and stay in their own lane doing what they do best and for that I have nothing but respect.
This just may be my new hang out when I have some downtime and crave a place that offers what I...
Read moreThis used to be one of our favorite restaurants until last night. We walked in and the hostess was completely overwhelmed to the point that I had to explain to the server what the situation was because she couldn’t even get it out. It felt slightly chaotic but we were hungry. We were sat immediately and they were busy, but it toook about 15-20 minutes for our server to greet us, and not because she was being lazy; everyone seemed overwhelmed. I get it, and we waited a long time for our food which was also fine, but they were out of calamari(on a Friday night!!!) and I thought someone really screwed up ordering other supplier is out. Any how we settled for the crab bisque which was good, but not hot. Hush puppies were excellent too. That’s when things went sideways. We all had the fish sandwich(fried) and our daughter got shrimp and grits. She enjoyed hers but all of ours was basically inedible grouper, very dry, opaque in a bed way, and rubbery with an odor stronger than usual. I stomached 1/2 the sandwich and gave up trying to chew it. The server did take two of them off the tab but I told her not to worry about taking off mine off since I did eat almost half. I felt bad for her too. Front of house and back of house need managers here IMHO. There was no management, they brought the wrong sandwich out twice, and the food presentation was horrible. The lettuce on the plate was brown and wilted, and I had to ask for new lettuce for all of us. That was the first sign that they didn’t care. I would never send out a plate with a wilted, brown lettuce setup next to it. It’s a shame because it was so good before. Cooks and servers can’t effectively do their job with...
Read moreThe worst dining experience we’ve had. We arrived after the lunch rush, and while talking to the hostess to check in for a table a server carrying a drink couldn’t be more annoyed that my toddler wasn’t moving fast enough to get out of her way to deliver the beverage outside. There’s a handful of tables in there and a few open, she tells us it’s a 30 minute wait. That’s fine, we go kill some time outside. She calls and sits us at the same table that’s been available since we first got there. Okay, maybe they’re short staffed- I used to work in restaurants so I get it. Upon ordering crab legs we find out they are out of crab legs (the entire reason we chose this place was for that) The tables have dwindled down and we are one of just a few eating, but our food still takes an hour to get out The bathrooms are filthy and smell like urine The combo platter was rotten. My husband had scallops on a plate for the toddler and told me to taste it beforehand bc the one he just ate tasted off. It was still raw. I grabbed a shrimp to taste instead and the smell of it made my stomach turn. I ordered a chicken sandwich and ended up sick shortly after leaving. I just assume my chicken and his seafood were cooked together since they were both blackened. The platter was comped, our server was apologetic over...
