I like Dulce Dough. The donuts are delicious, the shop is very cute, and the owners are nice people who do a lot for our community. I'm glad you're here! However, I have some suggestions that would make it much more likely that I'd return for another visit.
Please post a sign encouraging/requiring customers to wear masks, and ask your staff to do the same. When I was in there, I'd say the minority of customers (about 1/3) had on masks-and it was crowded! I was very anxious waiting in such a packed space and debated leaving, but was buying donuts as a special request for my child's birthday. Similarly, ask staff to wear sturdier masks and make sure they stay on correctly (over nose, etc.)
Provide an outdoor waiting area. It would have eased congestion (and virus transmissibility) if people could wait outdoors for their orders. But there wouldn't have been a way to hear your name called. Please consider a simple speaker system or similar so that people can hear their name called outside. This would also reduce the shouting from the person distributing orders.
As much as possible, leave the door open to increase air flow.
Not necessarily Covid-related, but one more thought. You have a great variety of donuts, but most of the ones we like the best weren't available when we got to the counter. I totally understand that making donuts takes time, but I'd suggest posting that day's donuts. You don't have to offer all 35 (or however many) each time. Or if you make certain ones at certain times, post that info, too. I saw a lot being prepped in the back, but...overall, it just wasn't clear what was available or when.
For example, many bakeries will post that day's rotating selection, so you know what you have to choose from. Then there are placards in the display case to help you identify. If a certain flavor is out, it would be helpful to know if it's gone for the day or simply a little longer wait until the ones you want are available. (I'm sure you know these ideas--just suggesting that you add a bit more in display or communication to make the experience better from the customer side.)
Again, I appreciate your business and hope you succeed. I'm sure a lot of these pieces will be sorted out in due time. I'm just concerned about the rising pandemic numbers, and hope we can all do our part to keep our community safe....
Read moreWow. WOW. An absolute must try. That’s really all I can say about this place. My family and friends knows that I’m a donut aficionado. I’ve traveled all over the world and my current favorite donut shop was in Pittsburgh. (Orams donuts in case you’re wondering). But Dulce Dough just blew that out of the water. We are here visiting for my husbands business trip and I truly cannot say enough about this place. If you’re a foodie - their brioche dough is light on the inside, slightly crispy on the outside, a total buttery pillow from heaven. As an avid baker, I know the talent and work that it takes to make this particular dough. A feat not for the faint of heart. Trust me. Nothing, I repeat nothing, is not homemade here. From the fillings to the glazes - all real. Not overly sweet so you can eat more than one without feeling ill like other chain donut places. There was even tiny flecks of vanilla bean in the vanilla dough, and also in the whipped cream on top of the French silk pie doughnut. I would have paid double their prices and not batted an eye. We have been here every day for the last three days, and plan to stop tomorrow before we fly out.
Top favorites in order, if that’s even possible:
Vanilla Cream (do NOT think this is going to be anything like any other filled donut you’ve ever had) Homer (strawberry glazed) Vanilla glazed French silk pie (has a filling that is light and airy and tastes like the best dark chocolate mousse) Chocolate glazed with sprinkles
I made the mistake the first day of only ordering one per person. How embarrassing for me.
Warning: Be prepared to crave these donuts for the rest of your life. I...
Read moreFull disclosure: I love doughnuts. I know a good one from a bad one. Expectations were high given our online research. We were headed home from a few days on SSI and, to be honest, I wasn’t feeling it. My wife wanted to give it a try but I wasn’t in the mood to fight a crowd and (my thought at the time) overpay for doughnuts. But, the wife won, and we went. Parking was tight but we got in. The building itself is really cool, awesome retro vibe, very well done. But I wasn’t there for that. There was a long line, in many ways a good sign, but not what I wanted to deal with at the time. As we got close to the case of doughnuts, they were big but that often means too dense / dry. I was already psyching myself out. When it was go-time, the staff was super friendly. We lingered a little too long given the line, but we were treated with nothing but patience and kindness. We ordered and received our doughnuts and went outside to enjoy them before our ride home. I bit in to my first one and, to be completely honest, it was as close to a religious experience as you might be able to have with a doughnut. Honestly, it was very good. It exceeded my expectations and no longer seemed so overpriced. I had one each of the chocolate and vanilla brioche and would give both a 10/10. In the end, I give solid marks for the facility, service, and most importantly, that round disc of heaven. Parking is indeed a bit of a challenge and there may be a line, but it’s worth the wait. We will definitely make it a part of our...
