November 2023
Really like the new phone charging station at each table with the digital screens and the food. The breakfast charcuterie board was so much fun, and the breakfast burger... and hashbrown casserole... It's a great place to come on the weekend. Been there during the week and during warmer weather and sat on the patio too which is always relaxing. Note for the person line cooking: please work on fried eggs. Over medium is very different from over hard with the egg whites burnt. Also, make sure you taste the maple glaze or whatever else you're mixing to ensure it's balanced.
Sun, June 7, 2020 First time back since the coronavirus caused so many restaurants to close their dining in. I miss the Sunday brunch covered buffet which they're not doing right now because of the coronavirus situation, but they are doing their spring menu. It was GOOD. The patio was open, but we ate indoors. Our waitress was very sweet, and it didn't take long at all for our food to come out. We always have a good experience there, and I'm a foodie with the ability to enjoy anywhere from a diner to a Michelin star restaurant if the food is good. I had the City Line BBLT (had bacon and bacon jam). The jam wasn't what I expected but it was good. I think I would love to try it more as a tomato-based jam with bacon in it. I just am looking forward to when they can bring the Sunday brunch covered buffet back. The prices are completely reasonable for the food value, and they have a fun drink menu. I saw a review where someone commented it cost them $200 for 5 people....and I thought how much food did each person order for crying out loud?!
Winter 2019?: Nom! I was so bummed when Pappadeaux over in Alpharetta quit their Sunday brunch buffet, and I never find places that have biscuits and gravy that is even close to as good as mine (except for Maple Street Biscuit Company) but this Sunday brunch was checking major boxes for me. The buffet is in a side room and more open and appealing than a typical buffet layout. The bacon was thick and perfectly crispy without crumbling too easily. They have an omelette bar where these guys make it the way you want it. They have scrambled eggs with separate toppings to do yourself including both Mexican chorizo AND crumbled sausage and things like Tillamook shredded cheddar, red onion, salsa, sour cream, baby spinach, and I forget what all. Their prime rib has absolutely delicious flavor, and I'm picky, and they have a horseradish sauce that is perfectly creamy and not overpowering but with a little zing and it all melts in your mouth. Oh my goodness it was nice to find a place in our own area that has really good homemade food that tastes good enough for me to be excited to find this place. The one big disappointment was the grits. They are completely boring and need to be more creamy with some cheesiness and a tiny bit of heat. Everything looked casual but nice and there is a pretty arched covered patio area to eat outdoors and plenty if outdoor seating open to the sun as well as plenty of seating inside without exposure to...
Read moreHad a great night out at City Lines. It wasn’t crowded, it was clean inside, we were seated in a separated area from bar that was open and had relaxed lighting, and we had the best server Alexis who gave great recommendations and was always on the spot with drinks and dishes. We tried (from her advice) the fried goat cheese balls (they call them Fritters, ha ha) which when you mixed a bite with the sauce and veggie garnish underneath had a great balance of the texture of the cheese with the tangy of the garnish that just worked! If your not into a lot of flavors going on you may want to pick more safe items, but we loved it. Then she recommended the charcuterie board. It’s comes out on a wooden plank that’s the shape of Georgia, and has more food than 2 people can eat if your also getting any meals! It had grapes, cheeses, apples, meats, some kind of spicy jam, pita slices that was just delicious. We mentioned we liked the jam and they put extra in our to go box for us! For meals (even though we were trying not to be stuffed, we got a Burger and a Chicken Philly (again Alexis cluing me in on the good stuff) and both of those meals were great and fresh! The burger was huge and cooked the way we asked, and the chicken Philly was better than (that we’ll know sub place that makes good grilled Philly’s) anything I’ve had in a while! Fresh chicken breast, fresh cheese, fresh veggies and a toasted hoagie roll. And the Tots and Fries were fresh fried and delicious as well. The manager was also making sure we were taken care of and we had to box up the leftovers because we were too full but definitely wanted it for a tasty lunch the next day. And last thing we’re the drinks, they had seasonal fun drinks that were great as well as some wine special my wife enjoyed as well as some good on tap beer choices. We were certainly glad we ventured out and gave it a shot! Thanks again Alexis !! You killed it!! Home run! We will be back. But it will be hard to live up to what they did for us, we hope they have it going on like that the next time we...
Read moreEDIT: we went back last night to try again and were very happy to experience a complete turn around, the new menu is delicious the staff and management are fantastic! So happy to have a great place near by. Thank you owners well done!
This is our fourth visit first 2 times service was lackluster at best, repeatedly had to ask for appetizer plates for shared apps, had to ask for silverware etc… simple things that a trained server would bring without asking but, ok not the worst. 3rd time bartender made a mistake and the manager berated her in FRONT of us she was so upset and in tears really set a great night out experience. Went back tonight, again, had to ask for app plates never came, went to the bar to get some. Ordered the bacon app ate 1/2 and after dinner went to finish it, it was black, burnt and inedible told the server we would like half off, we did eat half so only wanted $6 off our bill for the burnt half(app was $12) server talked to the manager(he couldn’t, wouldn’t come to table to speak to us directly) and told us no discount but would remake, ok remake now I’v paid the bill and have to wait another 15 minutes for the remake which probably cost the restaurant more in product, labor than the $6 discount. Ask to see the manager he was outside I saw the server go get him, came in to talk to me I hand him the burnt food and asked why he didn’t come to the table to at least apologize for unsatisfactory food, he flat out LIED saying he was in the kitchen “supervising” the refire, he was outside. Is he a relative because he’s a detriment to the business, so it’s no wonder at 6:00 pm on Thursday night there was only 3 people there. Go to Old Fountain Tavern much better management...
