Had an early dinner here with my husband and toddler. I have to say, this needs to be our new go-to sushi place. For a number of reasons, this place is winning.
When we arrived, we were greeted and seated immediately. Our server brought us not only a highchair, but a plastic pad to place under the highchair, making clean up for everyone a breeze. Clearly, this place is kid-friendly. The server and one of the sushi chefs consistently spoke directly to or made eye contact with my son, communicating with him and making us all feel welcome. Not every place is so happy to see young kids.
The food was fantastic. There is a regular menu, and then a handwritten menu that I'm guessing must be the things that change daily or weekly. These items, written in English and in Japanese, were clearly the more authentic items, and we ordered the tuna tataki and the octopus salad from this menu, along with a roll from their regular menu. The tuna and salad were so fresh, so good, felt so healthly to eat...we were just blown away. We contemplated ordering a second helping of each--that's how good they were.
I witnessed something while in the restaurant that also sold me. While this was our first time here, after we had been seated a while, a woman came in, and she was greeted with hugs from the server before sitting at the sushi bar. I never heard or saw her order anything, but she immediately had a drink and some food, as though they already knew what she wanted. They spoke to her as a regular, and said "Oh, we haven't seen you in a while--so glad to have you here!" I also heard the server telling that they had some menu item in, and wouldn't she like some? It just felt really homey and comforting, like this place is this other patron's go-to, and she was welcomed like family there. Really gave me a good feeling.
It's a small restaurant, but clearly, they know what they are doing. Definitely worth a drive to Marietta for this little place. We...
Read moreThis place sucks. I can't believe 20 people think this place is worth it. First, it is very expensive. Second, the chefs are unsanitary. Third and most of all, the chefs and the main waitress are completely rude. I love sushi and I have been to many restaurants all around the country and this place is nothing special. Maybe some East Cobbers who don't know the difference disagree. And it is especially not worth the bad attitude. This place is a mile from my house but I drive 5 miles to another Japanese restaurant instead. I will give a couple of examples of the rudeness. I asked for wasabi before I got my plate because I sometimes like to mix it in with the soy sauce. The chef literally told me no! He said "You will get wasabi on your plate.". I asked, only because they were not busy, if they could cut the nagiri in half to make smaller pieces. They flat out said no at first. I asked why and the chef, while groaning and muttering in Japanese, begrudgingly cut my nagiri pieces in half. The waitress then told me a few minutes later "we cannot cut the nagiri next time.". I have paid 20 dollars for a single serving of Blue Fin tuna in Miami and absolutely loved it. The price is no issue. This place is dirty, rude, and not worth the money. I was a waiter in college and I always tip hugely. Last time I was there, which was the final straw, I left 1 dollar. I have NEVER done...
Read moreWhen my wife and I moved away from Marietta last year we knew Ege was the restaurant we would miss more than anything. It's almost always busy (especially for dinner) but the staff keeps everything moving so efficiently that the bustling dining room is almost calming. The food is fresh and authentic, and if it's your first time here, you MUST sit at the bar so you can watch the chefs prepare the sushi.
We came back this Christmas and the first place we went was Ege for lunch. My wife had her usual nabeyaki udon (rich and delicious as always) and I tried the chirashi for the first time. I'm still shocked by how fresh all their seafood is, and it's amazing with their sticky sushi rice. We also split the dragon roll, and if you like eel, I can't recommend the dragon highly enough.
Ege is family owned, and we missed seeing the wife this time around, but she is probably the fastest and most polite server I've ever had the pleasure of getting to know. The restaurant is usually too busy for her to stop and chat, but over the two years we frequented here, we knew her and the rest of her family as kind and hard-working people who have given Marietta absolute 10/10, authentic, unbeatable Japanese cuisine. It's a privilege to eat here, and one you really...
